What can you do to help prevent breast cancer after you start taking birth control pills

What can you do to help prevent breast cancer after you start taking birth control pills?
Birth control pills can cause breast cancer. What type of "preventative maintenance" can you do while you're on them?

there is no sure way to prevent breast cancer; however, regular exercise and eating healthy can't hurt. Make sure you are doing monthly self breast exams and getting a mammogram if you 40 or over (or earlier if you have a history)

How do I check my breasts for lumps and earlier forms of breast cancer

How do I check my breasts for lumps and earlier forms of breast cancer?
I'm only seventeen but breast cancer runs in the family so I really want to start checking early. How often should I check?

Post some pics and maybe I can help.
2 :
You should just check your breasts when you are drying off after the shower just to see if there are any lumps or other bumps that shouldnt be there. You can always go to the doctor & have them check you out as they are trained to do this.
3 :
Ask your boyfriend to check

What ideas for breast cancer awareness month do you have

What ideas for breast cancer awareness month do you have?
I am in charge of this project at work. We are raising money for breast cancer awareness month for October. I have a banner coming and some stuff to sell for the cause, but I need unique ideas for the table or display. I was thinking using a pink table clothe and maybe make some pink ribbons out of construction paper to hang up. What are more ideas?? Thanks so much.

You could have detailed instructions on how to do a check-up. You could show actual pictures of breast cancer and how it appears (there are color photographs of it taken from a Micron Microscope on line) You could have a diagram of the stages of breast cancer (different stages) You could explain the various treatments that breast cancer patients go through. An explainition of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. With that the effects of the treatments themselves. You can explain that even though ten people are diagnosed wtih breast cancer it would be different for each of those ten. Breast cancer is an individualized disease. You could list the popular people that have been diagosed with the disease and are doing well now. Christine Applegate and Fran Drescher just two examples. You can explain that it is rare for somebody under thirty five to have breast cancer, and that it is even rarer (but does happen for men to get it) A lot of these ideas are on line so you could download it and paste to a board. I have read a ton of books about breast cancer since my wife was diagnosed with the disease and would use some quotes from some books like the Chicken Soup Series. With the focus of the President on a National Health Care Plan, I would estimate how much treatment costs the average person diagnosed with the disease. For example: We spent about $10,000 of our own money fighting the disease. That is some of the deductables and what was NOT covered by our insurance. I estimate going with our records that it cost roughly $300,000 to fight the disease including all the tests and visits including a mastectomy and 27 weeks of chemotherapy and 6.5 weeks of radiation treatments. Some people that had a cancer diagosis but lost their jobs since their treatment need to go and get an MRI done to make sure it had not returned. But it costs about $3,000+ dollars so many are going without and risking cancer returning. Good luck, I am counting on you to do a great job and you may be saving a life. Dave

Try these websites: www.breastcancer.org www.cbcf.org Dave has stated some excellent ideas as well!

How nice of you! I would visit your local American Cancer Society branch and ask for some literature/information/booklets, etc. that you can display on your table. I received just a ton of excellent information from the ACS. Their website is: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp More too: Telephone (1-800-4-CANCER): Information Specialists at NCI's Cancer Information Service can answer your questions about cancer. They also can send NCI booklets, fact sheets, and other materials. Also, you can order/download more literature here: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/breast

if you have a computer or a ps3 you can help find a cure http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ http://folding.stanford.edu

What are the chances of a 13 year old girl having breast cancer

What are the chances of a 13 year old girl having breast cancer?
I am 13 and will be 14 in exactly 20 days. I am above average as far as my chest size. For the past few days, I have been experiencing some very bad pain in one of my breasts. I have talked to my mom about it, but she said it may just be a briuse from working out in P.E. She told me that if the pain persists, she will set up a doctor's appointment. Niether one of us has open expressed the possibility of it being breast cancer but I have thought about it. Maybe I am just ill informed as to what breast cancer is and I shouldn't be worrying, please help.

Given that your breasts are growing right now, the pain you're feeling is probably perfectly normal. I'm glad your mom set up an appointment, though. I think it's always better to be safe than sorry. The chances of you having breast cancer at your age are very, very, very slim. So slim that, if you were my daughter, I wouldn't be worried about it one bit. I hope that helps and "Happy Birthday".
2 :
I think breast cancer is really unlikely, especially if you don't have any lumps. Since you're still growing, it might be pain from that. I remember mine being very sore at times. I think you should go to the Dr. soon if it really hurts to rule out any problems. Did you injure it in PE? Hope it feels better soon.
3 :
I'm a few years older than you- and I get that too. It's weird, but probably normal. I wouldn't worry about breast cancer! Happy Birthday in 20 Days

What is the difference in inflammatory breast cancer and invasive breast cancer

What is the difference in inflammatory breast cancer and invasive breast cancer?
Or is it the same thing because I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and while looking up info I keep seeing inflammatory and I just am wondering if its the same thing or not.

yes they the both mean spreading. good luck to you with your treatment
2 :
Inflammatory Breast cancer does not show up as a lump it is masses or as they say sheets, very hard to diagnose. Good Luck.
3 :
Inflammatory & invasive breast cancers are given these names because of the symptoms they present. But having one doesn't mean that you have the other. For example: a person can have a headache or a brain tumor. But having either one doesn't mean you will suffer from the other. Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is marked by some or all of these symptoms: the nipple may be flat or inverted, sudden onset (perhaps over a few days/weeks) of swelling of one breast, nipple discharge, pain or itching, redness that may look like the breast is infected, or thick-feeling areas of the breast. The symptoms and appearance of IBC can sometimes cause a doctor to misdiagnose a patient with just an infection, and some feel mammograms can be inconclusive due to breast density at the time of the swelling. Invasive breast cancer is graded in stages of 1-5, and at its higher stages has the traits of invading other parts of the body. This means the cancer has spread outside of the membranes of the breast ducts where it usually starts (Stage 0). It DOESN'T necessarily mean that it's spread throughout the WHOLE body. Most likely it has spread to the surrounding tissue of the breast. Please keep researching. Get to know your invader and how to deal with it. Explore all options before making a final decision. We hope this helps. Good luck in your journey. Mark the charityplush.com team

How long can you live with breast cancer before you die

How long can you live with breast cancer before you die?
I'm just curious. My mom's friend has breast cancer and she has been dealing with it for about 3 to 5 months. How long do you live with breast cancer?

It all depends on the particular cancer and the individual. Some women are treated and live for 50 more years. Some die within a year. There's no way to guess about your mom's friend based on the little you have said.
2 :
There is no way to answer that question - as every woman is different and your age, your health, the Stage of the cancer, how invasive and what type of breast cancer is all relevant to how long one can live after being diagnosed. Go to the Susan G. Komen web site or the American Breast Cancer web site for some statistics. Hopefully your mom's friend is getting treatment at a good Cancer Center or Oncology Dr. - and she'll go into remission and live a long time.
3 :
So much depends on the type, severity and point of diagnosis, as well as the treatment given. Many, many sufferers have a full and healthy life after breast cancer. It's always worth remembering that none of us have a guaranteed life span - with or without cancer. Hope your friend's Mum is well soon.
4 :
I was diagnosed 4 years ago - fine now. My sister was diagnosed 16 years ago - fine now. My mother died of breast cancer 16 years after first diagnosis. Aunt died of breast cancer 50 years after first diagnosis. Every case is different. Early diagnosis and treatment gives the best chance of recovery and lack of recurrence.
5 :
Hello, If the patient achieves a cure, she can live out a full life. Fortunate patients caught early do not die of their cancer. This is the goal of mastectomy and other treatments for the disease. Best Regards, John Di Saia MD
6 :
Impossible to answer. With early detection and treatment, a person can possibly live the rest of their normal life. Unknown variables (like if the cancer invaded the lymph nodes) make determining how long a person will live a "wait and see" game. My mother-in-law only lived 6 yrs after receiving treatment. However, I attended a breast cancer awareness rally recently and met a 17 yr survivor. Mark the charityplush.com team

If the cancer has grown beyond where it started, it is called invasive. Most cancers are invasive. Sometimes cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood or lymph system. treatment will vary on the type there are many types and the grade and stage it is at..chances of survival are good with treatments but also depend on many factors

Can a women get breast cancer by wearing a bra to sleep

Can a women get breast cancer by wearing a bra to sleep?
I've heard this from before, a lot of people think that wearing a bra to sleep causes breast cancer. Other people say if a woman doesn't wear a bra to sleep her breast will sag D: serious answers please!

i think people are taking the p*ss out of you
2 :
no you want get cancer, but you need some free time for body parts gravity is the only thing that will cause sagging in later years.
3 :
I thought I heard that too =/ I'm not really sure... But I always wear my bra to bed, I just forget to take it off or I'm too lazy, haha xD
4 :
I been sleeping with mine for years and I don't have cancer.
5 :
Wearing a bra to bed will not cause you to get breast cancer. The people you heard this from don't know what they are talking about. Wearing a bra to bed will help keep your breast healthy; and it might prevent them from sagging I don't know.
6 :
No. You can't get breast cancer by wearing a bra to sleep. I've done it many times in my life and no, it doesn't happen. Besides, if you do wear a bra to bed, it doesn't help unsag your breasts, it just stays there. Bras are meant to be worn when you're sitting or standing, not sleeping. When you're sleeping your laying down which doesn't do anything to your breasts at all. They do have exersises which keep them up anyway.
7 :
constricting the blood flow is one way to get a lot of ailments. Not just by wearing tight garments, but in a lot of ways
