I need a catchy phrase pertaining to swimming and breast cancer awareness

I need a catchy phrase pertaining to swimming and breast cancer awareness?
My swim team is swimming in a conference swim meet this weekend. Every sports team at the high school shows some type of support in honor of breast cancer survivors. Example, cross country tie dyed pink and white socks and pink sweat bans. The kids on the swim team decided they wanted to wear pink bathing suits this year. What is a cute, catchy saying pertaining to swimming that relates to breast cancer awareness? I mean there has to be something, whether it be something like: swimming breaststroke, to save tatas…I’m clueless. Help please!

Can girls get breast cancer under the age of 18

Can girls get breast cancer under the age of 18?
I'm sixteen and I felt a lump in my breast. My mother won't take me to the doctor because she thinks that my breast are still growing or that I'm close to my period. I'm not close to my period My breast stopped growing at fourteen and I'm sure of it. Do girls get breast cancer?
Women's Health - 17 Answers

1 :
they can
2 :
Your breasts don't stop growing until you are 25. I went up a whole cup size between 18 and 24. You can get breast cancer at any age.
3 :
from 20+ you could get breast cancer, you 16, soooo maybe, maybe not- anyways you should go in case
4 :
According to my doctor it is uncommon but it can happen. I've had 6 lumps removed from my breasts between the ages of 12 to 19. They all turned out to be non-cancerous though. so don't worry, and there is no harm in going to get it checked out. G'luck and don't stress :)
5 :
YES, they can and they sometimes do. If your mother won't take you then ask for the family's insurance card and take yourself. If that won't happen then talk to the school's nurse, she may be able to get you on the right track.
6 :
Girls (and boys) of any age can get breast cancer, but I don't think that what this is. Your breasts do not stop growing, they might take a break, but they won't stop. They'll change size and shape as you mature, go through hormonal changes etc. Are you sure that what you're feeling isn't a gland? If it's not too weird, talk to your school nurse and get their opinion.
7 :
well they can but it could be just a small cyst i have a small lump as well and that's what my doctor said but if u really feel like u need to get it checked out and u r 18 call a doctor your self or go to the nearest family planning organisation near u
8 :
Hi, Your mother is correct in that your breasts are still growing, but she is wrong about the cancer side of this. If you have a lump, you NEED to get it checked. Most will turn out to be what are called benign cysts, but the whole point of looking for them, and checking them is to identify the ones that are not. Cancer, even breast cancer can strike at any age, EVEN before puberty - amazing isn't it. Just because most patients are older doesn't mean all are. PLEASE do yourself a favour, talk to your Mum again, and if she won't help you, there are other options. Start with your school nurse maybe, or a local family planning clinic. If you explain on the phone that you mother is with-holding access to medical treatment, (which is what it amounts to) then they are likely to see you on a free basis) Don't stress because it is not a major catastrophe, just one of those things that you need to follow the steps for. Good Luck, I'll be thinking of you.
9 :
Do you know that in this world there's nothing in-possible therefore i believe they can.anyway it may be that you are still growing girls pass some stages including breast pains and lumps.
10 :
Yes, you can get cancer, but it is highly unlikely. I had the same issue and went to the gynecologist who did a breast exam. It turned out that I had fibrocystic changes due to hormones, which can happen any time through out the month. I had to cut out caffeine and drink more water. It really helped. Go to your Gynecologist first and see what's going on.
11 :
yes.. it can happen at any age. if you have a history of breast cancer in your family your at a higher risk of it. you may want to get yearly mammograms done. hope i helped ya.
12 :
Very rare, but could happen. See a doctor.
13 :
i think there is a possibility, it has nothing to do with age.
14 :
Just go to the doctor on your own, your 18 and an adult. It's safer to get it checked out now then regret it.
15 :
You should keep an eye one it, probably get it checked out. Most likely it will just be a cyst or a new change in your breasts. Remind your mom about the seriousness of breast cancer. Especially if you have any sort of family history(?) .
16 :
Ok well... I can understand where your mom thinks that there is probably nothing wrong but on the other hand wouldnt you rather be safe than sorry because women can get breast cancer at any age.... I hope that you dont have breast cancer and everything turns out ok but I would get it checked out just incase there is something wierd going on.... not necisarly breast cancer but also anything else. - I wish you the best and I hope everything will be alright But pleaseee get it checked by a doctor BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY
17 :
Yes, breast cancer don't choose women?

What do you say to someone whose mom just found out she has breast cancer

What do you say to someone whose mom just found out she has breast cancer?
My friend told me yesterday his mom found out she has breast cancer and I want to be there for him but I don't want to say the wrong thing how do you be there for someone in this situation without making it worse. Is there anything that was particularly helpful to someone in this same situation?
Cancer - 5 Answers

All you can say is "Sorry to hear about your Mom". Simple and sweet. If you like to add "If there's anything you need, let me know." this will not sound pushy, but will let him know that you are there for him.
2 :
Just be there. Be guided by your friend, you know him and know whether he wants to answer questions - like how is she?/what treatment is suggested?/aso. Or whether he would rather not talk about it in which case just be a good friend. Talk about regular things, be easy with him. When someone I knew died in an accident his daughter got great comfort from the support of friends - a text, bar of chocolate, things like that. Her brother didn't want to talk about it at all.
3 :
You're looking at the situation as if there's nothing that can be done for her. Understanding cancer is the key to defeating it. The many labels placed on cancer such as "breast cancer", "prostate cancer", and "lung cancer" only denote where the cancer is located. Yet, the medical community treats them as if they have different causes, such as "smoking causes lung cancer". If this were true, then smoking would also cause breast cancer and prostate cancer and the others. Leukemia is a form of cancer in the blood - how does smoking cause this? Cancer is both caused by dehydration and kills through dehydration and starvation. The three most important substances that sustain life are, in order, oxygen, water and salt. The tissues in the body are composed of 75% water and salt. The brain is 85% water and salt and the blood is 94% water and salt. These must be maintained at their peak levels to keep the body healthy - maintaining low levels of water and/or salt will cause health problems. Doctors advise their patients to "drink plenty of fluids". Unfortunately for their unsuspecting patients, these alternatives that contain sugar, caffeine and other ingredients change the composition of the water that they contain, turning them into a diuretic that pulls out as much as 50% MORE water than what they contain - these are a major contributor to dehydration, and your doctor promotes it! Another piece of faulty advice that doctors give their patients is to cut back on salt because it causes high blood pressure. This, too, is a lie. High blood pressure is caused when the water is removed from the blood to inject into dehydrated cells through a process called reverse osmosis. This process requires pressure - the pressure that shows up in the high blood pressure gauge. Filtering out the water leaves an "excess" of salt, and it's this salt that doctors claim is the cause of the high blood pressure. If that were true, then all you'd need to do to lower the blood pressure would be to cut back on the salt, and the blood pressure should drop naturally - take away the cause the the problem corrects itself. But it doesn't happen this way. Doctors still prescribe medication. This means that either the salt has nothing to do with high blood pressure or the medication was prescribed fraudulently. I wanted to mention these two examples to show how the medical community promotes health problems through the supposed sound medical advice they give. Doctors don't recognize dehydration on the level where health problems originate - this would involve prescribing water, and there's no profit in that. Instead, they recognize dehydration when they can make money from the patient (a $385 saline I.V. in the ER or as the result of a disease). Cancer is both caused by dehydration and kills through dehydration and starvation. If anyone has ever seen the urine output of a late stage cancer patient, they'll note that it is as orange as a sunset - this is the most obvious signs of dehydration. Patients at this stage drink perhaps 3 or 4 ounces of water per day when a healthy person should drink 1/2 their body weight in ounces per day. Cancer can be beaten if the person can be treated for dehydration and kept away from chemotherapy. Chemo is a major contributor to dehydration, as well. Refer to the link below to get you started on how to fight cancer with water. I've added two more links that might be of interest.
4 :
Well it depends on your relationship with girl. I personally would tell her you are there for her is she needs you at all. But also tell her that the vast majority of people who have breast cancer beat it, and live full lives.
5 :
You could cook her something not too spicy. Cold hard boiled eggs are nice or jello. You could ask her if there are any household chores that you could help her with if she is tired from surgery and/or chemo. You could send her a card with flowers or with a grocery gift card (if finances are tight). Just let her know that if she needs anything, she can call you for help

How do people die of breast cancer

How do people die of breast cancer?
My mother has breast cancer and she's currently undergoing her chemotherapy treatments. She was diagnosed with Stage II. She seems to be just as healthy as she always was (or seemed to be), and the treatments are barely affecting her at all. But I always hear of people dying of breast cancer. I've never really understood how a person can die of breast cancer - is it like with AIDS, where the immune system is incapable of fighting off other illnesses and diseases, and those are what actually cause death?
Cancer - 11 Answers

when the tumor, is too large or so uncontrollable, the body begins to shut down.....
2 :
All i understood about it too was that the cancer spreads on other parts of your body
3 :
Well there are different types of cancer, and the people who die of breast cancer probably have the type that spreads fast to all parts of the body. It can spread so fast that there isnt much people can do. I hope your mom gets better soon.
4 :
alot of cancer cells mestatisize (grow out in different directions) , this can affetc other areas of the body such as the lymph nodes and lymphatic system , cancer if contained to the breast doesn't kill because a masectomy would look after it I hope your Mom does fine
5 :
Breast cancer (and other primary locations of cancer) spread to other parts of the body, including lymph nodes and vital organs.
6 :
most of the time it spreads to other organs. my wife died from it . it was awfull to see in the last few months. she withered away . looked like she was a little old lady. I do not wish this on anyone and do wish your mother the best. Treatment has come along way and hope she is doing well and will continue to beat it.
7 :
First all the best to your mother: You are correct when you say the immune system is compromised. Chemotherapy can also lower the immune system as it knocks out white blood cells. Many cancer patients don't die of the actual disease they die of other infections, as their body cannot fight them off. If you mother is interested tell her to google all the natural things she can do to help herself. Denial looms large when one feels good. Cancer does spread if not checked and it affects other organs of the body and the immune system gets overloaded. Cut out sugar, soda's, try fresh vegies, limited fresh fruit (sugar conent) lots of salads, organic chicken because of the hormones. She needs to know if she has a hormonal affiliated breast cancer. Exercise, lots of water, good vitamin supplement. Epicor is a natural immune system booster and you can find it on google. A natural site for breast cancer survivors is www.polymvasurvivors.com if you wish to read up on those things.
8 :
My aunt passed away in February 2007. She was diagnosed at age 28. 20 years ago. She went into remission after a radical masectomy. Lymph nodes are all over and this is what helps fight and filter infection, malignancies included. Unfortunately, this does not always do the job. The cancer can metastasize to the lymphatic system and the malignancy will spread throughout the body. Different lymphnodes will fight off certain parts of body depending on location. Usually, most cancer will metastasize if caught too late. My aunt relapsed a few years ago and it spread to her bones and brain and other major organs. She died from her compromised immune system which was affected through cancer (lymphatic system). She got pnuemonia and could not fight it off. I hope your mom pulls through. The scary thing about breast cancer is that it does not have to be a lump. Many people mis interpret that. Cancer can be detected down to the size of a pin prick. Just look for abnormalities in your breast just in case this is a genetic condition.
9 :
Well first and foremost with the chemotherapy treatments this can be the starting point for a withering immune system. Then this can often cause spreading other parts of the body such as the bones or lungs causing cancer in this as well. At that point you have treatment going on for more than one part of the body causing very strong weakening of the immune system. This can often lead to death just like AIDS as you mentioned because the body is to weak to fight of any other small viruses leading to infections. Good Luck with your mom!
10 :
This is an excellent question. You deserve a complete answer. There are a few ways in which cancer can lead to death. How the disease progresses in each individual, if it cannot be medically and surgically controlled, is difficult to predict. However, there are patterns that recur in different kinds of cancer which show us that the biologic nature of different kinds of tumors are inherently different. The pattern of events in colon cancer, for example, are different from breast cancer, and both of them are different from prostate cancer... etc. One of the defining characteristics of cancer is the ability to spread to distant organs. This is called metastasis. Breast cancer is often capable of metastasis, most commonly to the lungs and to the bone marrow. This probably happens at a microscopic level even before the tumor is first found. When someone is evaluated for breast cancer, a finding of cancer in the lymph nodes of the armpit tends to suggest the potential for microscopic distant spread of disease even when none can yet be detected. Chemotherapy is the treatment of the whole body with anti-cancer medicine, designed to destroy these metastatic tumors before they can grow. Metastatic tumors can become a cause of death. Tumors in the brain can lead to interference with brain function. This is eventually unsurvivable. Tumors that grow in other locations can also interfere with other organ functions. Metastatic lung lesions can directly interfere with lung function or can help harbor infection or they can bleed. When aggressive cancer grows in multiple places within the body, there is no way to control these tumors with surgical removal. The "tumor burden" can start to change the way the entire body uses energy. If there are several pounds of rapidly growing tumor within the body, this usurps the bodily supplies of nutrients and energy molecules. The rest of the body suffers almost as if it were starving. This type of depletion leads to the inability to fight infections and heal injuries. The patient can, like you suggest, appear to have AIDS, although the types of problems that they suffer are not as bizarre as AIDS patients. Breast cancer growing in the bones can lead to fractures, while lesions in the lung can lead to fluid build up both inside and around the lung. Some patients who are suffering the ravages of disease but who are not yet being completely destroyed by it, end up bed-bound only to succumb to hospital type complications such as pneumonia or blood clots. Hospital type complications like this are a mode in which cancer causes death. Stage 2 cancer like you describe is frequently very controllable. The science of cancer therapy is advancing rapidly and we now know to look for specific markers in the make-up of the tumor which help indicate that certain therapies may be of benefit. Chemotherapy for breast cancer is often strongly effective now, and is much better tolerated then other versions were in the past. Surgical decisions are also informed with a tremendous amount of data. We know now how to do much smaller but equally effective operations compared to those that were done in the past. This is a rapidly advancing field in medicine. I hope that helps. Good luck! Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions.

It usually spreads. It hits the lungs first.

How to teach children about breast cancer

How to teach children about breast cancer?
So since october is breast cancer month in school we want to have a presentation for elementary children to help them and understand more about what breast cancer is> Since they are little kids we don't want to spend alot of time talking about it because they won't really understand, so instead i want to make a video that is an introduction for them but i need ideas on how to start it and how much should i tell them about breast cancer

Since you say that they are "little kids",then theres not much you can say that they need to understand, except, that it is a bad illness, and that all grown women should check theirselves out and should let a dr check them out,so tell them that they should go home and tell their mommies and all adult ladies in their home to please go to the dr and get a breast exam, because they love them and don't want them to get sick.Thats what I would focus on-Good Luck !
2 :
Ahhhhhh, I don't know about that. Little kids, mostly you're going to get uncontrollable giggles the minute you say "breast." I don't think young children need to have their awareness raised about breast cancer.
3 :
I think it's completely unnecessary for young children to have such a presentation. I think it would cause unnecessary fear and worry. I have spent most of my working life as a primary school teacher, and would never have considered this appropriate. Almost every day, teenage girls post to this forum terrified that they have breast cancer; often this is as a result of a talk, sometimes at school, from someone who has neglected to tell them that at their age their chances of getting it are just about nil. They have left the talk believing they need to examine their breasts and that any lump they find may be cancer, when in fact breast self-examination is not advised before the age of 20. How much more worrying would this be for young children. Depending on their ages, some would worry that they have it; and many more would worry about their mothers. When in fact the mothers, and in some cases the grandmothers, of primary school children are almost certainly not yet in an age group where breast cancer is a risk - it's almost unheard of in under 25s, fewer than 0.1% of those diagnosed with it are under 30, only 5% are under 40 and most (80%) are over 50. The average age at diagnosis is a little over 60. I think the potential danger of misinforation and incomplete information when doing a presentation on this for any age group are huge, unless those doing the presentation know exactly what they are talking about - witness the worry caused to teenage girls. Young children do not need to have their awareness of an adult cancer whose main risk factor is being over 50 raised. The time to talk to a young child about any type of cancer is when a family member or someone else close has it. A more useful presentation would be one in which you explained to teenagers that they are not at risk, do not need to examine their breasts and have more chance of being struck by lightening while on their way to cash in their jackpot-winning lottery ticket than they do of developing breast cancer.
4 :
lo-mcg is 100% correct. Breast cancer awareness talks to teenagers causes more stress than any other single cause on these question pages. If you MUST talk to young children about it, tell them it is something grownups sometimes get without knowing about it so that is why we should all have regular check ups. If a Dr finds it at a check up they can treat it and you will get better.

What is the youngest age that someone could have breast cancer

What is the youngest age that someone can have breast cancer?
Cancer - 4 Answers

1 :
well, to begin with.. all women from the age of 20 at least.. should do regular breast examinations themselves. screening mammograms are done usually only for women over 35-40. especially if there is family history of breast cancer. also .. smoking has been asscociated with breast cancer and so middle aged smokers shud be screened. most breast cancers are diagnosed in women aged 35 and older.
2 :
I was 35
3 :
Breast cancer is defined not by age but by tissue . . anyone who has breast tissue can develop breast cancer including children and males. Children have a different type of breast cancer than adults though . . so all ages should be aware of the possibilities.
4 :
It can happen at any age. I personally was 30 with my first diagnosis and 33 with my second. The youngest person I know of directly was 15 when she was diagnosed. But having breast cancer that young is very rare.
