1. which chromosome is related to breast cancer? HER2 gene on Chromosome 17 2. the name of the protein coded for by the gene that is defected HER2/neu 3. the age of onset umm... you mean average? Not sure, probably >35 4. is it sex-linked or autosomal? Since it’s not on a sex chromosome I suppose it’s Autosomal :) 5. is it dominant or recessive? Definitely not dominant… I suppose recessive, but I’m not actually sure that’s confirmed. check out these: Wikipedia, emedicine, webMD

breast cancer

breast cancer?
I have lots of small knots in both of my breasts, but i have a biggish lump in my right breast. So my question is what do lumps (from breast cancer) feel like? (are they moveable? do they hurt? etc.) i know that the small ones are probably normal, but its the biggish one that sorries me, because it has gotten bigger over time.

They can be both mobile and fixed. They are not often painful, but can be. They are hard. There doesn’t that clear everything up for you? Just kidding. It isn’t possible to know on your own. You need to be evaluated by your doctor who will probably order a mammogram or an ultrasound or both to get at look. Most lumps are not cancer and not likely in someone under 40 years old.
2 :
I notice from your profile that you're 17. As such the chances of breast cancer are as close to zero as makes almost no difference, and the chances of having it in both breasts are even lower. Breast cancer's all but unheard of in under 20s, fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40. Most (80%) are over 50. And, even in women over 50, most breast lumps aren't cancer. And most cancerous breast lumps aren't painful - most people diagnosed with breast cancer have felt no pain. Breasts are pretty lumpy things anyway, and if you examine them with your fingertips you'll always find lumps

breast cancer?
does breast cancer hurt? i mean is the breast supposed to hurt so much? is one of the symptoms a change of color like a black spot on both under the nipples (which hurt.) has anybody here have breast cancer and it was a false alarm? why did you think you had breast cancer?

1 :
Definition: Cancer that forms in tissues of the breast, usually the ducts (tubes that carry milk to the nipple) and lobules (glands that make milk). It occurs in both men and women, although male breast cancer is rare. Symptoms: Early breast cancer usually does not cause pain. In fact, when it first develops, breast cancer may cause no symptoms at all. But as the cancer grows, it can cause these changes: * a lump or thickening in the breast or armpit * a change in the size or shape of the breast * discharge from the nipple * a change in the color or texture of the skin of the breast or areola (such as dimpling, puckering, or scaliness).
2 :
I was diagnosed with BC in December. I found the lump because I had a spot on my breast that was very tender and every so often would get just a general achy feel about it. I didn't have any black spots like you mentioned. If you think there is a problem (and it sure sounds like it) call your dr. and make an appointment. Good luck!
3 :
Get a specialist to look at it. In the meantime - 4 - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. 17 The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. 18 Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? (If you find this useful, copy it and give it to a friend. Somebody got to Yahoo and they delete this as soon as they find it) The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. 19 I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. 20 I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.
4 :
Get it checked out. I didn't have black spots but I did have sharp jabbing pains from my tumor. It's definitely worth getting checked out. They say cancer doesn't hurt, that's what I was told for the two years mine was ignored by doctors but I'm here to tell you it can hurt. It's likely nothing but get it checked to be sure.
5 :
Breast cancer can hurt, especially when the tumor invades the nerves, but there are other things that can cause breast pain (inflammation, infection), so definitely get this checked out. If you do have cancer, the soon you act, the better it will be for you. Let us know how it goes.
6 :
Well-they say it doesn't hurt, but mine did. My little dog stepped on my breast. A huge lump formed and it hurt. It went away so I ignored it. Several months later I had a mammo and breast exam. Nothing. 2 months later the lump came back and hurt again. Well-it was stage 2 invasive carcinoma. The cancer had been there all along and was missed in the mammo and the doctor missed it. The dog had apparently stepped on a lump we couldn't feel, and it caused inflamation around the cancer. Food for thought. Maybe the tumor itself didn't hurt, but the area around it hurt a great deal when it got injured! My advise is to ignor all the rules, and if ANYTHING is funny or different go see a doctor. Don't wait. I am now awaiting a mastectomy after two lumpectomies.
7 :
When my breast cancer was diagnosed last year it was because I found a lump in my breast while doing a self breast exam. It was not painful, nor was it discolored. It was just a lump. It was properly diagnosed by a biopsy

They mostly want money. Why not give them to the local nursing home, or Goodwill Industries?
2 :
You can sell them locally and donate the proceeds to the breast cancer foundation. Some participants in the national breast cancer walks such as the Susan Komen Walk and the Avon Breast Cancer Walk are always looking for help in raising funds. You can check out their websites too

What is the big fuss about breast cancer

What is the big fuss about breast cancer?
At least 1 million people a year die from malaria, while around 40,000 die from breast cancer each year. We spend, as a planet, 262 million dollars on breast cancer research a year. Meanwhile, only 100 million is devoted to malaria research. What is wrong with us?
Cancer - 7 Answers

1 :
Goes to show you how fucked up we really are.. are country is going to the shitter.. they gov hides all kinds of things from us too
2 :
You need to learn how to do research. You're mixing US and world statistics all over the place. Beyond that, I don't have much to say. Have you ever had cancer, by the way?
3 :
The majority of the breast cancer research money is raised by private foundations. We do not have a big problem with malaria in the US, but you can always start your own non-profit to raise money for it if it bothers you that much. This is how the breast cancer foundations started.
4 :
As others have pointed out, the statistic you give is the annual number of deaths from breast cancer in north America alone. The 'big fuss' about breast cancer is a result of hard work. Breast cancer awareness campaigns and BC Awareness Month started as a campaign by ordinary women, many of them with cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). Any group of people can start such an awareness campaign for any illness. There are other cancer and disease awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. If malaria is a cause close to your heart (and good for you if it is) there is nothing to stop you and a group of friends from starting a campaign along the lines of the breast cancer awareness campaign - but you'd have to be prepared to work as hard.
5 :
You are very wrong about the malaria research funding. Bill Gates Foundation alone contributed 168.7 million to develop vaccines. The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine received a 30 million grant from Gates Foundation. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine received over 46 million in funds from same foundation. I could probably go on...
6 :
But at least we know what causes malaria. What is causing breast cancer?
7 :
Malaria is a lot easier to radicate than cancer and is treatable with a single shot that costs pennies. The US does donate lots of money to third world countries where malaria is rampant. Unfortunately there are not enough volunteers to get the vaccine, mosquito netting and oil sprays to the people who need them. Why not get off your chair and do some volunteer work instead of griping about it. John Kennedy once said "Ask not what your Country can do for you but what can you do for your Country". You can also do the same for other countries

What is connection with aluminum in deodorants and breast cancer

What is connection with aluminum in deodorants and breast cancer?
Some years back a woman scientist had gotten into trouble with drug company she was working for when she reported about particular content in underarm deodorant which she said cause cancer in women. Again now I read a report from Great Britain which says doctors have found aluminum salts from deodorants in breast cancer tissues which have been biopsied. But if these studies have been going on for many years now, and they have these proofs, why not do something?
Cancer - 6 Answers

1 :
Isn't it aluminum and Alzheimers? I'm sure I read that. Anyone else?
2 :
I found that Aluminum workers are at higher risk of lung and urinary cancers. Now, this means it is linked to working around aluminum, it doesn't mean aluminum causes cancer. That is unproven at this time.
3 :
I just saw this answered on Good Morning American last week.....there is NO correlation between deodorants of any kind and breast cancer. Look it up on their site if you need a second opinion.
4 :
This is a coincidence, as in the breast lumps taken or biopsies from females just happen to have aluminum in them, not all but enough to run a red flag up the flag pole. I assume they also contained cancer, but that is not mentioned just aluminum. However as I am wearing a 'pain patch' as I type this that is 80 times stronger than morphine and sinks into my system via my skin, what does this really mean? Hair dye, perfume, skin cream, make-up, in fact anything we apply to our skin, soaks into the blood stream and then the body. Yet I do not hear any coincidence on say brain tumors and hair dye. Likewise as you get older, you really do not need deodorants, as the body changes and you do not perspire as much as you did at 16. My Grandmothers never had deodorants, but they did have breast cancer, only back then it was called 'consumption'.
5 :
Umm, consumption was TB, not breast cancer.
6 :
Please ignore what was reported a few years back. Read the latest information one ow the world's leading cancer institute- No. deodorant and anti-antiperspirant can not cause Breast cancer and it has been told very clearly by different cancer institute - # Can antiperspirants or deodorants in aluminum cause breast cancer? Articles in the press and on the Internet have warned that underarm antiperspirants or deodorants cause breast cancer (1). The reports have suggested that these products contain harmful substances, which can be absorbed through the skin or enter the body through nicks caused by shaving. Some scientists have also proposed that certain ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants may be related to breast cancer because they are applied frequently to an area next to the breast (2). However, researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) are not aware of any conclusive evidence linking the use of underarm antiperspirants or deodorants and the subsequent development of breast cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates food, cosmetics, medicines, and medical devices, also does not have any evidence or research data that ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants cause cancer

How does being diabetic effect your treatments for breast cancer if at all

How does being diabetic effect your treatments for breast cancer if at all?
Just found out my grandma has breast cancer in both breasts and she is a diabetic and I'm scared that that could have an effect on her treatments. Just wanted to find out some more information

a good friend of mine has type 1 diabetes for the last 45 years and is now having problems with ovarian cancer. the cancer it self produces an insulin like action that makes the glucose numbers go down, and the patient to have to use less insulins. but the treatments don't necessarily help diabetics either. the chemo makes them so sick they cannot eat, so they must have whatever food they can keep on their stomachs reguardless of whether it is good for diabetics or not. Your grandmother should be on insulins to help control the glucose numbers while she is undergoing the treatments for the cancers. She is lucky to have both these in the 21st century! Treatments are much better than they were only 25 years ago. Much good luck to your grandmother beating this
