Why does breast cancer get so much publicity

Why does breast cancer get so much publicity?
I think all types of cancer need to be given attention in the media. Why is there such a disproportionate focus on breast cancer? Also, does anyone feel that it's wrong to be using a serious illness to market products?

Ladies with it go through so much pain, physically, and mentally. It also puts their family through sadness. All cancer deserves special, but many people are dying because of it. Here in Australia the most common forms of cancer are:- non-melanoma skin cancer (4 times the rate of Canada, USA or UK)( gets publicity in Australia) Prostate (guys don't like talking about it) Colorectal (bowel) (no-one likes talking about it) Breast (Guys like them and women aren't scared of discussing it so gets publicity) Melanoma (gets some publicity) Lung (gets publicity as the easisest to prevetnt - don't smoke!) Ad for using it to market products, the idea is to get publicity to raise awareness as awareness means we get earlier diagnosis and treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment is the best way to beat this disease.

The four most common forms of cancer in this country are: 1) skin cancer; 2) lung cancer; 3) prostate cancer; and 4) breast cancer. Skin cancer is preventable and can usually be treated without long-term effects. Lung cancer is preventable and does get a considerable amount of press attention. Prostate cancer is slow-growing, primarily affects older men, and is often left untreated because the patient will usually die of something else before the prostate cancer becomes a problem. That leaves breast cancer, which is less preventable and can lead to death if not diagnosed in time. It has gotten a lot of attention in the press because it matters to women and they have made it an issue.

It started with people truly concerned with research and development. They did a wonderful job, bringing the cancer to people's attention. The present Barbie-pink campaigns are commercialised and depend on dubious statistics and scare campaigns.

It is one of the most common cancers, that's the reason for the attention
