Why is everything related to breast cancer

Why is everything related to breast cancer?
Does anyone else find it annoying that most cancer related products are related to breast cancer? Many of us are fighting other cancers, yet the products are all pink! Does anyone know where to find brain cancer/tumor related products? I've been to zazzle and cafe express. Thanks!

There is less funding for breast cancer is why the pink campaign that you see all the time. I thought everyone knew that???????
2 :
LOL! I even complained to my chemo doc, which he thought was funny! I asked him, where's the gray stuff?? My son got my tshirt from tshirthell.com. BTW, MOST of the cancer funding seems to be going to breast cancer awareness, hence the PINK products at every turn.

I'll tell you why because breast cancer seems to metastasize to other areas faster than other cancer. No cancer is more important than another. Lets face it, all cancers suck. My sister had breast cancer. 2 yrs after her surgery, she developed brain cancer. When she had the tumors removed, they were breast cancer cells in those tumors. My sister in law was the same way, only her breast cancer detoured to her lungs. She died at 33 from lung cancer caused by breast cancer cells. She never smoked a day in her life either. One woman started the pink ribbon. Susan G. Koman I believe. Why don't you start one for brain cancer. No one says you have to only use pink ribbons. I wish you well.

I have brain cancer. I too am sick of the focus on only breast cancer. Contrary to what people think, breast cancer is not on the rise. Just the fact that it is easier to diagnose and people are talking about it. We do stained glass. We do not make pink ribbons. We make other colors to fit the cancers. Also, check out www.abta.org They have an on-line store that is for all brain tumors. If you can't find anything, make your own. Make t-shirts, wrist bands, etc. I would buy them and so would many of my friends who also have brain tumors. Please let us know what you discover. This is important to me. Thanks.

I can understand why this issue is frustrating for people with other types of cancer and their families, and of course breast cancer support is particularly high profile at the moment because it's almost October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I agree that awareness needs to be raised about other cancers too, and while I hate 'competitive illness' I can see why there is resentment about an imbalance in awareness raising and fund raising. But the real answer to your question is 'hard work'. Bear in mind that breast cancer awareness campaigns and BC Awareness Month started as a campaign by ordinary women, many of them with cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). Any group of people can start such an awareness campaign for any illness. There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. And all this breast cancer awareness is not 100% positive for those with breast cancer. I have had breast cancer and I think that there are extremely irritating things about Breast Cancer Awareness campaigning, especially Pink October as the more cynical of us call it. Support for those with a deadly disease that kills on average 33 women a day in the UK and 112 a day in the US (the only stats I have, I'm not being ethnocentric) has been turned into a marketing opportunity by big business, with around 1% of the cost of specially made pink stuff going to breast cancer charities, the rest into the retailers’ pockets. The pink fluffy stuff infuriates me, and I'm not at all 'tickled pink' by Asda's (Walmart's) trivialisation of an illness that may yet kill me. October magazines carry stories from cheerful survivors who claim to have the all-clear (there is no all-clear with breast cancer), and often say bc has changed their lives for the better - very different from anybody I know who's had breast cancer. And it has negative consequences for breast cancer patients too - I believe that the whole thing is counter-productive, that the marketing and fund-raising hype surrounding breast cancer, by trivialising a deadly disease, is leading people to believe that breast cancer is a) not very serious, certainly not as serious as many other cancers (many women with breast cancer have been told - by people who don't have it - that it's a 'good' cancer to get) and b) curable. (my neighbour said to me 'they've just about got breast cancer licked, haven't they?' Really? Why are they still cutting women's breasts off then?) I've even heard it said that it's a ‘fashionable’ or 'sexy' cancer - my sexy prosthesis and sexy scarred, one-breasted body are evidence that it's no such thing. Yes other cancers need awareness campaigns - many have them as I’ve said, but they don't receive so much support – or, crucially, have as much work put into them. I don't wear a pink ribbon and as someone in remission from breast cancer I support the Think Before You Pink and Pink Stinks! campaigns http://www.thinkbeforeyoupink.org/Pages/AboutTheCampaign.html

Breast Cancer Alternative There are many supplements and remedies, if taken regularly and as recommended, that can give you the immune system of a child. Important, is to know them. This list of supplements can increase your chance of being cured of breast cancer considerably. If prostate cancer is becoming a concern for men, women are not in peace with breast cancer, which dries up the source of joy of thousands of women every year, rich and poor. In fact, breast cancer is not new, although its incidence seems increasing. In the 5th century BC, Atossa, the queen of Persia, had fought in vain against her breast cancer. Tears in her eyes, in excruciating pain, surrounded by family and friends, she had to say goodbye to power and wealth to an endless journey. Despite the progress of medical science, the frequency of breast cancer is increasing every day around the world. He is the most common cancer in women. One woman out of twelve will be affected by breast cancer during her lifetime, according to several medical statistics. The disease becomes so popular to the point that a large majority of women are afraid to undergo a mammogram. Women of all classes feel concerned about breast cancer. Billions of dollars are spent in studies, but the causes are still poorly understood, healing is hypothetical. To increase their chance of being cured of breast cancer, some victims turn to alternative treatments. Either alone or along with the conventional treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormonotherapy, surgery, etc.) every day more and more women use natural medicine to fight breast cancer. If you are one of them, this article will be an additional weapon in your war against breast cancer. Is there an alternative way to eradicate breast cancer besides chemotherapy and radiotherapy? Immunotherapy - is a type of therapy consists of stimulating the normal defenses (immune reactions) of the body to fight or protect the body against pathogenic attack, including the development of cancer cells. Immunotherapy is not new as many may think; however, in the past, physicians believed that the immune system fought only against bacterial and viral attacks. About 100 years ago, Dr. William Coley has demonstrated that it can cure or control the proliferation of cancer cells by injecting vaccine that strengthens the immune system. However, the theory was not so appreciated by the medical elite. After years of studies, researchers have found that the immune system plays an essential role in protecting the body against cancer. Studies have also shown that patients who have a strong immune system not only more likely to be cured from breast cancer but also to reverse the effects of chemotherapy and radiation. That is, your chance to be healed depending largely on the health of our immune system. How can you boost your immune system naturally? There are many supplements, If taken regularly and as recommended, that can give you the immune system of a child. Some of them include: Lignans - Lignans are non steroidal compounds of the family of phytoestrogens (also known as dietary estrogens) found in large quantities in fruits and vegetables, soy, flaxseed and grains. They have preventive and curative effects on breast cancer, according to new studies conducted by a group of French and German doctors in premenopausal women with breast cancer and healthy premenopausal women. It seems that lignans affect the breast tissue by blocking the synthesis and movement of female hormones, preventing tumor development. The medical elite do not confirm these studies yet; if you are a cancer victim, however, you can increase your lignans intake. Ellagic acid - ellagic acid is a polyphenol antioxidant present in many fruits and vegetables such as raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, walnuts, pecans, grenades, etc. Researchers have found that Ellagic acid may inhibit or slow the development of cancer cells. It is also suggested that ellagic acid can help reduce heart disease, liver problems, and birth defects. However, to get satisfying results, this supplement must be taken with a diet rich in fruits and cruciferous vegetables. Astragalus - Astragalus propinquus (or simply Astragalus) has been used in herbal medicine for centuries to strengthen the body against diseases including but limited to colds, upper respiratory infections, heart disease, lower blood pressure, diabetes, liver problems, and many types of cancer. Astragalus has been shown in medical studies to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, antiviral and diuretic properties. Using it regularly as recommended, Astragalus can not only prevent or eradicate cancer cells, but also a wide range of other ailments. Graviola - also known as sour, Brazilian Paw Paw, Guanbana, Graviola boosts the immune system, reverses some chemotherapy side effects, and enhances the effectiveness of other cancer remedies. Th

what are some ways to show support for breast cancer when it is not the month of october

what are some ways to show support for breast cancer when it is not the month of october?
I have to do a persuasive speech and I would like to do it on breast cancer awareness.

Who cares what month it is! Just wear a pink ribbon on your clothes! Nobody will notice if you just wear a pink shirt
2 :
By continuing to advocate self-examination and early detection for women of all ages.
3 :
Continue to wear the clothing, buttons, or ribbons that support breast cancer. The main thing to do is instruction in maintaining a upbeat Attitude, Hopefulness, and be positive, encourage support groups. Also encourage everyone to do self-checks, mammograms. My mother showed me a lump the size of a large avocado seed; why she waited, I don't know. Persuade them to immediately see a physician if they feel anything suspicious. I love the commercial done by Lyn Redgrave. It is so positive. God Bless.
4 :
As mentioned above me, encourage the women in your life to do self checks once a month and report anything 'suspicious' to the dr right away. You can also support by donating to Susan G. Koman Foundation, you can buy the yoplait yogurt with the pink lids and return the lids by mail to the address on them by the expiration date on the lids, you can order breast cancer awareness checks for your checkbook. I think Susan G Koman's website may have ways you can contribute or raise awareness through-out the year. Good luck with your speech!

Can effective Breast Enlargement pills cause breast cancer

Can effective Breast Enlargement pills cause breast cancer?
I started taking Bust-Boom recently. Less than a week and I already notice a huge difference in my breast size. They use phytoestrogens to increase estrogen to stimulate new breast cell growth. I've read that phytoestrogen may reduce the chance of breast cancer but I've also read that elevated levels of estrogen can encourage breast cancer cells. Does anyone know more about this? If you do, can you provide references? Thanks

Do you want links? Please do research this thoroughly before continuing with a product you have bought for yourself. Best of luck.
2 :
Hi.... Estrogens are well known to increase breast cancer risk in some women, however, for example, OCP (oral contraceptive pills) have estrogens and may increase the risk only slightly (they also have lower doses than they used to have). OCPs are also known to decrease the risk of ovarian cancer (1) and endometrial cancer, after 5 years of use. Phytoestrogens in the other hand, have been measured in urine of women in women with lower prevalence of breast cancer, like Japanese women and had been found in higher levels. In animal studies, phytoestrogens were found to interfere with tumor formation in rats (2). But it all depends what kind of phytoestrogens are you taking, and also the dosing (doses a lot higher than in food)!!! In general you should be cautious and limit your consumption, because some phytoestrogens can have a estrogen like effect, and those could potentially cause cancer. So.... some researches believe phytoestrogens can actually reduce the risk of cancer, certain types, and when they come from the diet. And some researches are worried that some phytoestrogens could be harmful in high doses. Pretty unclear! I know, just be careful and remember that all those 100% natural suplements can be harmful too. My personal opinion?? I find very unlikely that a "natural" product would work as fast, and if it does, I would personally think it might be dangerous. I visited their website, and it seems very unprofessional. Remember a lot of herbs have not been studied, and while they might work, the dosing in natural products is not controlled, as in other drugs or medications. Good luck! :)

Can any woman help me regarding breast cancer

Can any woman help me regarding breast cancer ?
My life long best friend just told me she has breast cancer and I am so worried. She ignored a lump for several years and this week finally got a mammogram and a ultrasound and a biopsy which confirmed it cancer. She says she can feel it and its 3 to 4 cms.. They told her to come in monday for an mri.. She is only 36 and what concerns me is that she had this lump for so long and never told anyone, Why the mri and does she still have a good chance it hasn't spread?

not to sound rude but i answered this already.
2 :
i believe in "mangosteen" its a juice that has been known to cure cancer.. look it up on google
3 :
They will be able to see any other tumors by the MRI. If the cancer hasn't spread (they will probably do a lymph node dissection as well) she has a chance. They can either remove the lump-if she only has one. Or they can remove the breast, and then do reconstruction surgery.
4 :
god bless her heart and my prayers go out to her o.k take care ok baby
5 :
well im not a woman but i can tell you a few things. Mammograms are taken with x-rays and an mri uses magnets. the reason for the mri is that it differentiates between soft tissues much better than the x-rays froma mammogram could. also the mri will help with localizatiojn opf the mass, since it has the ability to show images in 3d. and as for the spreading im not a doctor so i cant tell you in good confidence
6 :
I'm not a woman but I have read this recent news that there is now a vaccine that can lower the mortality rate of woman who has breast cancer by 100% . here is the reference you may want to read it too. http://health.fnets.net/?p=53

What should I do, I just found out my Aunt has breast cancer

What should I do, I just found out my Aunt has breast cancer?
My sister just got off the phone with our mother. My aunt has breast cancer. I don't what to do. I don't know how to feel. She lives half way across the country and I can't afford to fly there to see her. What am I and my sisters able to do for her?

the best thign to do right now is to jsut give her support and be there for her, phone her more often etc..
2 :
I would definitely let her know you care and wish you could be there with her. Besides that, there are things you can do for her right where you are. My husband was diagnosed with stage iv cancer which had spread to his lungs. I spent a lot of time on the internet researching alternative cancer cures. I found a lot of helpful information. He has been on a special program of supplements and diet for the last 3 years and is well and healthy today. Don't give up - start researching and stay in touch with her!
3 :
If you go to www.after-cancer.com there are details of lots of small things you could do that make a big difference to cancer patients. Just being there and keeping in touch will lift her spirits. And look under Treats and in the other categories for all the things that have helped friends and family keep in touch. Good luck - and your Aunt is lucky to have such a supportive family. Verite R
4 :
I am so sorry for your Aunt, but breast cancer is beatable I know, my wife has it and we have been fighting a tough battle. It will take a lot of support from family and friends to pull together and get your Aunt well again. The first thing she will have to do is to find out what stage her breast cancer is in and then begin a plan of recovery. At home where she lives: She needs to gather a team of doctors that will be helping her to overcome this disease. I would have her find out the best ones in the city she lives in and begin there. When she goes to doctors visits see if she can take a voice recorder to record what is being said. Too often it is a lot of information to comprehend and this would be a nice way to make sure all the information is there for review. She will be going in for a bunch of tests, so schedules will have to be altered to take her to them. Being far away you will not be doing this, but what you can do is pray for her, and call her often so she has somebody to talk to. My wife's friends got together and made her a Cancer Quilt. It has helped her a lot especially when she got down, she would wrap herself in it and feel loved. It would be nice to get something hand made so that when she is depressed she could look at it and feel loved. There will be a lot of pressure to the family members living around your Aunt because they are going to be at the battle front. They will be the ones to help her get to her appointments, help her with housework, do the cooking and the chores. If she will have to go through chemotherapy, it will take it's toll. Not at first but gradually. My wife never got sick because they have a lot of drugs that will take care of that. It depends upon how many treatments she may have to go through. What my wife appreciates are the phone calls, letters, and cards she received. Words of inspiration are very important. I hope they caught it early, and she will not have to experience what my wife has but she can make it through it. Talk to her and let her bring it up if she wants to. Add me to your friends list if you want to and feel free to ask any questions if you need to. My prayers go out to you and your family. Your Aunt will beat it, and she will need all the support she can get, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It takes a lot of WORK to fight this terrible disease.

Grandma and aunts are considered 2nd degree relations. They are 1st degree relations to your mother, increasing her risk factor, but not considered a major increase your risk, particularly if they were over 40 when diagnosed. Try the link to calculate your personal risk.
2 :
they are high specially if the gene responsible is BRCA-1 and 2 genes you can read more about breast cancer in here with many useful links http://breastcancerdestroyer.blogspot.com/

HER sister had it 6 years ago and is still doing fine.Check your body each day, that is the best way to catch it early,is the advice we have given our daughters.

What would be a good title for a research paper about breast cancer

What would be a good title for a research paper about breast cancer?
I had to do a 10 page research paper on breast cancer and I need a really stong good title. any suggestions? thanks

I have a ton of books on breast cancer (since my wife had it) and I've read them all plus numerous newspaper and magazine articles on it. So from all this reading on the subject here are a few things that stand out about breast cancer in my researching of the topic. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetimes. That means that out of ten women 80% will get it. With this in mind comes my second thought and it is that surviving breast cancer is dependent upon discovering it early, in fact the earlier the better. I also learned that twenty women could have breast cancer and the experience will be slightly different for each women. Because of staging, hormone negative or positive, it can be different for each and every patient. So, the treatment is the same that is chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation but it is different for each patient. With this in mind, I would formulate a good title and thesis sentence. One in Eight Women will get Breast Cancer in their Lifetimes, Early detection is a key to surviving it. I could even dismiss the last part of the title, and call it, "One in Eight". Hope it helps. How I would break it down. Introduction about statistics of the disease, make a strong thesis sentence. What is cancer What does it mean when it is discovered in the breast Dealing with the Diagnosis Staging and what that means Next step- gathering your team together Treatment blending traditional and non traditional together After Treatment what's next? Paying for treatment the Cost of Cancer Life is Never the Same Cancer Returns, what now?

Does everyone with breast cancer receive a bone scan

Does everyone with breast cancer receive a bone scan?
For everyone who has had breast cancer, when you were first diagnosed with breast cancer did your doctors have you to take a bone scan? Is it necessary for a person who has been newly diagnosed with breast cancer to have a bone scan?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If you have a good doctor they will order this. This is to see if there are other cancers and will determine the course of treatment. It is VERY important.
2 :
I believe it is a normal protocol, when someone is diagnosed with any type of cancer to have a bone scan to determine if the cancer has already spread. I had a bone scan. MRIs and ultrasound to determine if other "abnormalities" that showed up on the scan were anything serious. I have lots of cysts but the cancer was only in the breast and 3 lymph nodes.
3 :
In the UK it depends on the protocol of the hospital treating you. I had stage 3 grade 3 breast cancer, and it was never suggested I had a bone scan. Talking later to other women who'd had breast cancer, I found out it's routine for many or most hospitals to arrange a bone scan if breast cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. My first ever bone scan was almost 5 years after diagnosis when I was experiencing pain in my ribs and hip. I think it's a sensible precaution to offer newly diagnosed breast stage 3 breast cancer patients a bone scan.
4 :
Unless you are diagnosed with DCIS or LCIS it is standard procedure to have a bone scan.
