Where can someone who is addicted to prescription narcotics due to breast cancer get help

Where can someone who is addicted to prescription narcotics due to breast cancer get help?
WE HAVE BEEN FIGHTING BREAST CANCER FOR 3 YEARS. AFTER A MASTECTOMY ,CHEMOTHERAPY,RADIATION THERAPY,A CRANIOTOMY AND MORE RADIATION THERAPY SHE IS IN REMISSION. NOW SHE CAN'T GET BACK ON HER FEET DUE TO THE PRESCRIPTION NARCOTICS. DOCTORS AT 2 DIFFERENT HOSPITALS WOULD NOT TAKE HER INTO THEIR PSYCH WARD EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS LOST OVER 40 LBS. IN 2 MONTHS. SHE REFUSES TO EAT BECAUSE SHE HAS NO APPETITE. MY INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER REHABS. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Try contacting your local AA or NA center. I know your circumstances are different but I am quite sure someone there can help. Also try a cancer support group. I am sure someone there will also be able to help. If i can be of any help to you locating such places please e-mail me. Best wishes and you family are in my prayers.

Maybe you can call her doctor (the one that wrote the presciptions) and tell him whats going on. My friends dad is riddled with cancer and unforitionally hes not going to beat the cancer, but at any rate they had to change his medications around for pain because he was going threw symptoms like this, I cant tell you what he was on or what he was switched to, but hes in cronic pain all the time and he has to be on pain medication, they just tinkered with his medication untill they found a combonation that worked for him so he could live the best life possible while hes here :) *HUGS*

Can someone provide me links about government funding for breast cancer as opposed to prostate cancer

Can someone provide me links about government funding for breast cancer as opposed to prostate cancer?
I would like to know the differences between the funding from the federal government (especially during the very beginning of both movements) to these charities. I am quite sure that breast cancer research has always been given much higher funding from the federal government but I am curious as to whether or not the unequal funding for breast cancer research foundations (in comparison to prostate cancer foundations) is what directly caused the mass awareness of breast cancer and the general neglect of prostate cancer.

Suggest that you read the history of breast cancer awareness and try to understand the social ramifications that fueled the priority for breast cancer research . . it is obvious you are too young to remember the events that led up to the 'war on cancer declared in 1971' and the womens liberation movement during that time period.
2 :
No one here is going to do research for you. If it is that important to you, you will do it. No government started the “mass awareness of breast cancer that was done by everyday men and women who were sick and tired of people, mostly women, who were dying of the disease. How do you figure there has been a general neglect of prostate cancer? The use of PSA for early detection was started in the 1990s. The use of robots to do prostatectomies began in the last 10 years. A vaccine for advanced prostate cancer was approved by the FDA this year. Do you really believe every cancer should be funded equally? Do you believe only women die from breast cancer?

How much should prostate cancer research be getting as compared to breast cancer research

How much should prostate cancer research be getting as compared to breast cancer research?
Recent studies show that the death rates from Prostate Cancer are much higher than previsously thought, higher than even Breast Cancer rates. Even previosuly, there was only a 1% difference in the death rates. Do you know how government research money is provided for Breast Cancer as compared to what is provided for Prostate Cancer? Recent studies have also found that the PSA for prostate cancer is not as reliable as once thought, so vigilance in taking the test may not help. The difference is that the government provides $1 for Prostate Cancer research for every $700 for Breast Cancer. This last year, the very first Federal Men Health Commission was established, but it has to find its own funding. There are over 200, fully funded Federal Women's Health Commission. http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/

I'm not sure about the studies but, do believe they should be equal as far as research go. Actually any kind of cancer should be studied more, you would think if we can put a man on the moon and spend all this money helping other counties fight wars, we could find a cure for cancer.
2 :
That's thanks to the power of lobby groups. And this is why I think breast cancer activists are misandrist.
3 :
they should be of equal importance...both are deadly forms of cancer that have a greater death rate across all cancers...It's a bloody disgrace that one has preferential treatment over the other...
4 :
I'm not sure how the funds are divided, but the rates of death could be directly related to the fact, that women are now going to the doctors specifically for breast exams and mammograms catching cancer earlier. Maybe the men are not as vigilant. Also, you might take into consideration that women are involved in A LOT of private breast cancer research fundraisers and charities, so therefore, breast cancer research may be making greater strides with the private donations.
5 :
The disparity in funding is due, not to less government funding for prostate cancer, but the private funds raised for breast cancer by survivors like myself, people who simply have a friend or family member who has had breast cancer and corporate sponsorship of the cause with portions of sales of certain products being earmarked for breast cancer research. We get out there and pound the pavement and raise the funds and patronize companies that support the cause. The difference in death rates is not due to lack of testing on the part of men or the PSAs accuracy, but men who receive a diagnosis and don't follow treatment protocols if they seek treatment at all. They're more worried about losing their "masculinity" than their lives. I am not defined by the state of my breasts. My only concern is that they be healthy. As part of my treatment to suppress hormone production due to an estrogen/progesterone positive tumor I opted to have my ovaries removed rather than take pills to accomplish it. Does that make me less of a woman? Of course NOT! If you're concerned about these inequities go out and raise money and awareness!

none !!!. come on its been know by some of the best doctors. all these diseases are treatable check it out for your self

What should I get my mom (who is battling breast cancer) for Christmas

What should I get my mom (who is battling breast cancer) for Christmas?
Okay, I just don't know what to get her. Should I get her something that is Pink to go along with the breast cancer theme, or something else that doesn't have anything to do with that, I just don't know????? HELP! She found out in late August and is enduring 16 weeks of Chemo then 4 weeks of radiation with a treatment everyday for the radiation, then possibly a hormone treatment after all that! I love her more everyday. She has had an incredibly optimistic personality, even after a full removal of her right breast. Please, if you have any ideas they would all be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

go to a novelty gift store and get her one of those "stress relieve balls" that looks like a breast, with a nipple on it even. if she's as optimistic as you say, she'll get a kick out of it.
2 :
How about a spa day? She probably doesn't feel too beautiful right now, so this might help her to feel more human again. Manicure, pedicure, facial, massage-- works for me!
3 :
I'd say get something little that has something to do with cancer but I would also get her something that is very far away from the situation, something that will make her forget. I change my mind, I think you should get her something that has nothing to do with her illness and when shes done her Chemo get her something that says "I defeated it!" Hope it all goes well! Give her a big hug for me!
4 :
Something to make her feel pretty...yes, pink is just fine. Best wishes.
5 :
She has probably lost all her hair right about now. And I mean eyebrows included. So a selection of hats and wigs would be very welcome as would a day at a spa. Also during radiation there is some skin breakdown and weeping so some soft cotton tshirts and sport brassieres would be great.
6 :
get her like diamonds or a day at the spa or sumting fun.
7 :
Tell her how much you love her first, she needs family like you I would think that's the most important gift of all, ask her what she would like maybe there's a special place she would like to go maybe a movie or out to eat and the to of you bond, maybe a family portrait, gift card to her favorite store, a beautiful piece of jewelry a heart don't have to be expensive it's the thought that counts. I wouldn't do the pink thing she needs a day without thinking of that even though it's hard for everyone. good luck I will pray for you all.

Better yet, contact me and I will make you one...no need for rubber! I will make you one from glass beads and a silver and pink colored breast cancer ribbon charm which is hypoallergenic and is lead free. I make them and sell them to support my own expenses from being a cancer patient. Been suffering from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I make bracelets and necklaces to keep my mind from overthinking itself...gotta keep your hands busy.

Is it possible for girls of around the age of thirteen to get breast cancer

Is it possible for girls of around the age of thirteen to get breast cancer?
im thirteen and breats cancer runs in my family. i was just wondering if i can get breast cancer now, and what the symptoms are.
Women's Health - 4 Answers

Yes, you can get breast cancer. It does not discriminate. Symptoms will vary according to each person. No one is the same. You can have cancer and not know it.
2 :
No, because their boobs aren't developed all the way. if you have lumps in your boobs at an age of 10-15 most likely it wouldn't be breast cancer. But if your worried you really have it then go see a doc. But I've never herd of a teen getting breast cancer. Hope this helped [:
3 :
well, you CAN. but I think it's REALLY rare. I've never heard of anyone having it so young. so don't worry. don't worry unless doctors tell you you have something to worry about(:
4 :
It is extremely EXTREMELY rare for a 13 year old girl to get breast cancer (i'm talking a 1 in 1000000 chance). Fortunately breast cancer has a trend to discriminate (contrary to what was said above). You will find that around 9/10 breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50 years. You will also find that 9/10 breast lumps are not cancerous. Symptoms of breast cancer usually include any of the following and usually more then one- 1. a breast lump (that feels like a stone) 2. a change in the shape and appearance of the breast (you are at the stage of puberty so your breasts are probably changing anyway. When i say change in appearance i mean an in-dint or dimpling or a strange rash that does not go away) 3. a discharge (fluid) from the nipple 4. breast pain is a rare symptom and is usually due to hormones. I would not worry about it at your age, but it is good that you are well aware that you maybe at risk in the future. When you are older, you should talk to your doctor about when you should start getting mammograms (scans of your breasts). You should maybe talk to your mum about it, as it may effect her as well.

Does drinking water from a plastic bottle that was left in the car overnight cause breast cancer

Does drinking water from a plastic bottle that was left in the car overnight cause breast cancer?
Toxins from the plastic bottle leak into the water if it is left in a warm place overnight. These toxins are known to cause breast cancer.

You mean you didn't see the warning on the side of the Bottles.
2 :
what? i've never heard such a thing !! if it's true then i'm doomed !!! =,(
3 :
Its a theory that started with Sheryl Crow.
4 :
dont be stupid
5 :
Uh if thats true i do believe i may be in trouble oh well
6 :
i hope not or im gonna die, i do that all the time!!!
7 :
No. It's a Sith Legend.
8 :
why just breast cancer? surely if the toxins are as bad as you say, it could cause cancer anywhere in the body. I have done it loads of times and thankfully I don't have cancer.
9 :
It actually can...... The reason why, is that when heat gets to the plastic bottle, the plastic slowly corrodes inside of the water. There are dangerous chemicals in the plastic.
10 :
I've heard that but in this day and age, what doesn't give you cancer?
11 :
Do you think those bottles are being kept cold at the storage facility and during shipping? I would imagine that leaving it in our car overnight is the least of our worries, if it being warm does cause cancer.
12 :
.. These day people think anything can give you any type of cancer.. Do you honestly think that finishing off that water is going to give you cancer.. .. the odds kind of point to no.. I don't care what scientist think.. [dumb]
13 :
no. cancer is a complex process that is not fully understood but requires environmental and sometimes genetic factors and exposure. All these things that are known to cause cancer don't actually really CAUSE cancer (maybe with the exception of smoking, but not all smokers get cancer) but increase your risk of it.
14 :
MAYBE IT COULD FOR SOME BODY SYSTEM...
15 :
There are different types of plastic bottles. Some arent even supposed to be reused. Others can be used over and over. I read a article in the paper about this. But I know that when I worked at a gas station some of the drinks we recieved (mainly gatorade) was not cold on arrival nor was it stored in a cool place. I dont even know if they ship any drinks cold (other than beer). So I would hope the answer would be no. You can do some googlin and find a lot of info. Ha my mom still has the article on the fridge, google the chemical Lexal in plastic bottles.
16 :
No, it's an urban myth/legend, originating from a hoax email that was widely circulated last year. These links give the facts behind these rumours/hoaxes about plastic water bottles and breast cancer. Sheryl Crow is supposed to have claimed on Oprah that this is what caused her breast cancer, As you'll see, Oprah Winfrey's company, Harpo, denies that Sheryl Crow ever made those remarks http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/medical/a/bottled-water.htm http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/petbottles.asp
17 :
Just saw a thing about that on television about three weeks ago. Some companies are having their bottles made somewhere and they were finding cancer causing chemicals in the plastic. I didn't pay attention because I don't buy bottled water.
