what are the chances of breast cancer recurrence

what are the chances of breast cancer recurrence?
I'm asking this question of behalf of someone else. she is 46 years old. she was diagnosed with breast cancer around 7 years back and after chemo and removal of one breast. however a year back she found a lump on her arm and ignored it. today went to the doctor to get a biopsy. now i really want to know what the chances are of a cancer coming back?? im really worried and i cant wait for 5 days for the biopsy report to come back. thanks.

Unfortunately there is a chance of a recurrence. I have known way too many people who have had a recurrence. One poor woman had a recurrence on the opposite breast 14 years later, with lymph node involvement that spread to her bone...scary...Any new lump should not be waited to check. I hope her biopsy comes back normal. I fear for myself as well. I am only 6 months cured, and It is always at the back of my mind.
2 :
I am a three year survivor of breast cancer. I asked my oncologist what are the chances of recurrence she said 10%. Nobody can really tell you the chance of recurring breast cancer >>>> each patient differs. This lump could be benign but best to wait for biopsy results. Waiting is hard but you will know for sure the results other than opinions from people on Yahoo Answers.
3 :
89, as in the past i can't answer medical questions because i'm not a doctor. the only thing i can do is to advise you to wait for the results of the biopsy test. any medical questions need to be addressed to a doctor and a specialize who can tell you better than i can. i have heard of some cases that the person had recovered for 20 years and is still going strong. there is no telling how long or if at all the cancer will come back at all. i think that it all depends on what kind of cancer it is and how long the person has had it, and the treatment given. in reality i don't think that any one can predict how long or at all if the cancer will or will not come back because there are a lot of factors to consider that only the doctors know about. and even then they can't say for sure, they can only hope that they are giving the right treatment to stop it.
4 :
Unfortunately there is always the chance that breast cancer will recur, it is something that breast cancer 'survivors' have to learn to live with. The actual odds of it happening have a bit to do with the original pathology report, what stage the cancer was at when found and whether or not there was lymph node involvement so it is impossible to give you an exact answer with the information you have provided us with. On the other hand I have known people with little or no lymph node involvement get a recurrence and people with a bad prognosis go on to live for many years without a sign of recurrence. I tend to think of it as a 50% chance, you either get it or you don't. I hope her lump is nothing sinister.

Why is there so much hype over breast cancer

Why is there so much hype over breast cancer?
Breast cancer is only the 4th most common type of cancer, yet it seems to receive the most attention from the media.
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
1 in 8 women get it. And it is easy to treat if you find it soon enough. And it is a simple test to do to diagnose it yet women don't go every year to get tested.
2 :
You being a male, it figures you'd ask this question. You DO know men get breast cancer too, don't you?
3 :
This is going to be an unpopular answer, but here goes.... Part of it is that breast cancer is one of the "feel-good" causes that celebrities support, which then gets media coverage. Think back to the mid-late 80's with AIDS, and how almost everyone wore a red ribbon, and if you chose NOT to, you were deemed a homophobe, or you didn't care. Now breast cancer is treated in the same way (by the way, I'd like to see ALL cancers defeated, I lost my mom to cancer 4 years ago), with the pink ribbon, and again in some cases if you don't wear a pink ribbon, or don't support the Komen foundation, you "hate women" or worse.
4 :
The answer to your question is 'hard work'. Breast cancer awareness campaigns and BC Awareness Month started as a campaign by ordinary women, many of them with cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. Any group of people can start such an awareness campaign for any illness. If they wanted the attention breast cancer campaigns have though, they'd have to be prepared to work every bit as hard.
5 :
Breast cancer now days is getting very common. My sis had breast cancer and had the mass removed from her breast which had also spread to the lymph nodes under the left arm pit. And they took out 36 lymph nodes . And she had to have Chemo and the radiation. 26 treatments. She had been in remission for 11 years. And a few weeks ago they found another lump and removed it and say they got it all and she would not have to through all the treatments again. But the doctor did tell her that if you've had breast cancer and gotten rid of it, if it would come back it would more than likely attack the lungs. So even though it's the 4th more common it definitely does deserve the attention of the media. Because what they bring in does go to the cancer research.

Can Benign in the breast subsequently turn to cancer

Can Benign in the breast subsequently turn to cancer?
If a person has been diagnosed with Benign and is treated, should they continue monitoring or do regular check-ups in the future to make sure nothing more happens in reference to recurrence and the possibility of breast cancer developing?

When a person is diagnosed with benign what? “Benign” is not a diagnosis. Women should always continue regular checkups and mammograms whether they had this or not.
2 :
Yes, they should. It is very important to be Pro-active with your own health.
3 :
Yes they do continue to monitor for signs of breast cancer I had a benign tumor once they removed it but later on in life they found ductal incarcinoma insitu in same breast which required a masectomy. If they hadnt monitored this breast It could have been worse

Lynn Redgrave died, but she was cured of breast cancer. How can that be

Lynn Redgrave died, but she was cured of breast cancer. How can that be?
The paper said the actress died after 7 years of fighting breast cancer. But she was a cancer surviver and cured after 5 years she was still living. If she was cured, why did she die of the cancer?
Cancer - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Quite possibly the original breast cancer was "cured," but in the meantime metastasized to other areas of the body, which is what cancer frequently does. She was a great actress, I'll never forget her as "Georgy Girl."
2 :
no one is ever cured of cancer. the correct term is remission. she was in remission for 7 years but cancer can return at any time and in any place.
3 :
The medical community has decided to create an illusion that we are making progress using the 3 methods of "curing" cancer that has been legally accepted in the United States for the last approximately 100 years. Billions of dollars have been poured into this feeble attempt and it is failing miserably, but that is not something the medical community can tolerate. So they have done some things with the statistics that borders on shameful. Cancer is the ONLY disease that uses a 5 year survival rate as the criteria to say a person is "CURED." The time starts when you are diagnosed. So now they are pushing everyone to get diagnosed early on the idea that you have a better chance of being cured. Well that's clever. Since it takes about 8 to 10 years for cancer to be growing before it is typically able to be diagnosed and another 10 years to die from it if you get NO treatments, the earlier you are diagnosed, the better statistic you will be. Redgrave died 7 years after she was diagnosed, so she was CURED according to the way she will be listed. If they had diagnosed her a few years later, she would not be a good statistic and have to be labeled as NOT CURED. She had breast cancer and the typical chemotherapy and radiation treatments statistically only cure 1.4% of those people. Living 7 years from diagnosis, she gets the distinction of her relatives of saying she beat the odds and was part of the 1.4% cured. I challenge any person here on this forum or anywhere to show us all credible evidence that ADVANCED BREAST CANCER TUMOR PATIENTS BEING TREATED WITH CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE DO BETTER OR LIVE LONGER THAN UNTREATED. Where is the study that shows that? In fact, you will NOT see the real data, but only carefully massaged data that gives the results that promotes huge donations of money that is being poured down a rat hole and wasted on research that is just NOT WORKING. Even the "cancer studies" are being manipulated to present a favorable impression that Cancer cures are making lots of progress, when in real life, it is just the opposite. It's now very common for these guys to make insults on our intelligence by using some ridiculous "Relative Benefit" study, and not the true data by using ONLY an "Absolute Benefit" study, like the major trickery used for Tamoxifen where the Absolute Benefit was 1.5% and the Relative Benefit was 49%. These guys are using the Relative Benefit and this is simply deceptive and wrong. When looking at data being presented, it is important to make sure honesty and true numbers are what you are looking at. There are several cancers to consider when establishing the percentage of cases that are lumped into the 2 - 3% cure rate that chemotherapy & radiation are showing. Here is that data showing the % cured (defined using the word cured to mean that ridiculous 5 year survival rate) for a specific cancer using the conventional chemotherapy & radiation or surgery. The study that was done was called "The Contribution of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy to 5-year Survival in Adult Malignancies. This study took every randomized controlled clinical trial performed in the U.S. from 1990 to 2004 and the results showed the above Cancer cure statistics: Uterus: 00.0%; Stomach 00.7%; Colon 01.0%; Breast 01.4%; Head & Neck: 01.9%; Lung 2.0%; Rectal 3.4%; Brain 3.7%; Esophagus 04.9%; Ovary 08.9%; Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma 10.5%; Cervix 12%; Testes 37.7%; Hodgkin's 40.3%. Now realize that Testes and Hodgkin's only represents 2% of the total cancers. To put an even better perspective on this understand that ANY drug evaluated by the medical community that shows less than 30% effectiveness is considered to be LESS THAN A PLACEBO. So, a sugar pill is just as effective as about 98% or more cancer treatments used today! ! ! You will be interested to know that the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY in 2007 said "Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy... seldom produce a cure." That was a quote from the "CANCER FACTS & FIGURES 2007." I do wish the medical people would STOP using the word CURE for cancer at the 5 year survival rate. This is deceptive and degrading to real credible science. CURE in all other diseases, except Cancer, is defined as "ELIMINATION OF DISEASE." Why NOT be honest for a change about what is really going on? Instead of trying to hide the real facts, let's examine what is really working and what isn't. Drug companies love the fact that the typical cancer patient will waste $500,000 to fight cancer with these concoctions that are worse than sugar pills. The most effective ways to treat cancer is what is being done outside the U.S. It is illegal for anyone to use any cancer treatment that does not involve chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery! All other treatments are considered illegal and a person can be put in jail for using, promoting, or experimenting, yet many of these treatments are getting tremendous successes. The average person fights off about 6 events of cancer in their lifetime. The body eliminates cancer cells each day as part of the immune system defenses. Our bodies are designed to do that. Giving people poisons to fight cancer and destroying the immune system is as ridiculous today as it was when the top allopathic doctors decided to drain 1/2 of the blood out of the body of George Washington to cure a sore throat. That didn't work, so the next day they gave him 650 mg. of mercury thinking that would do it. It did, HE DIED. That was chemotherapy, or more aptly put, chemical poisoning. To get far better answers to a "cancer cure," you should investigate the GERSON CLINIC in San Diego that has a facility across the border in Mexico where they can treat people by supporting a good immunity and detoxification that really works. good luck to you
4 :
You don't go into remission, you survive. All that means is we are blessed enough that the rotten mutated cell has gone into hiding only to sneak up on us somewhere else. I don't believe anyone is ever truly cured of breast cancer or any cancer. The 5 yr mark is a joke. That's what they told my sister when she reached her so called 5 yr mark only to get brain cancer. Pathology on her brain tumor showed, guess what, breast cancer cells. See, Lynn Redgrave may have survived breast cancer, but those sneaky no good cells went somewhere else. Don't be fooled by those saying "cured" ADD Spicey, If you had all the money in the world, it cannot buy you life. When it's your time to go, it's time and you cannot say no.
5 :
If the paper said she had been fighting it for 7 years how could she be cured 5 years ago? That makes no sense at all.
6 :
The medical community is a bunch of spineless jerks that cannot possibly admit that after all of the tens of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars, at the end of the day she still died, too young, from cancer. Does that look like the medical community did the job that they were paid for? If you paid that much money, wouldn't you expect to live?????
7 :
Unfortunately, there is no "cure" for cancer. Patients may have cancer eliminated by surgery, chemo, and radiation with long term remission resulting. However, a "cure" remains elusive to medical science. The obituary for Lynn Redgrave stated that she was 67, but did not specify cause of death.
8 :
Breast cancer is never considered 'cured'; it can return at any time. It is a common misconception that all cancers are considered cured if there has been no recurrence or metastasis within 5 years of diagnosis and treatment. This IS the case for a few types of cancer; if they haven't returned within 5 years, experience shows they are not going to return, and they can therefore be considered 'cured'. Cervical cancer and testicular cancer are examples. Many other cancers, breast cancer among them, are NOT considered cured after 5 years because they can return even years later. Most recurrences of breast cancer occur within 2 years of diagnosis. After 5 years, the chances of recurrence or metastasis are statistically much reduced, which is why it is still a significant landmark for women who've had breast cancer - I partied when I passed the 5 year stage. Thereafter, the risk of recurrence falls with every passing year. But t can never be considered cured. There is a great deal of misunderstanding about cancer and five year survival, as Onlymatch4u's hopeless confusion of 5 year survival stats and 'cure' shows. I was diagnosed with breast cancer the same year Lyn Redgrave was, six and a half years ago. I have no sign of cancer, but no doctor has EVER used the word 'cured' to me. Instead they say 'no evidence of diseae' (or NED, my favourite word. Whatever source you got the information that Redgrave was 'cured of breast cancer' from was wrong and ill-informed. There is no 'all clear' with breast cancer.

I had breast cancer,in my left breast, treated with a lumpectomy and radiation and sent home

I had breast cancer,in my left breast, treated with a lumpectomy and radiation and sent home.?
I was not given Tamoxifin or any preventative drug. 6 months later I got cancer ,a more aggressive cancer in my left breast. My doc acted shocked. I had a lumpectomy, radiation and chemo. Then I was given Femara. Did my doc follow procedures?
Cancer - 4 Answers

1 :
Get a copy of your original pathology reports. Your surgeon should have done receptors testing. This determines if your original cancer was a result of being estrogen/progesterone positive or negative, or her2neu positive or negative. Her2neu is a protein in the body, and that is generally a more agressive cancer. You could also have been triple negative, like I was. That meant that your tumor was basically a nasty chunk of bad luck, and not caused by the horomones in your body at all. So, judging from your original treatment, it sounds like you were treated as a triple negative, or even a very early stage of cancer. I wonder if it was an early stage cancer, because triple negatives generally have an amazing response to chemo, which is fantastic, since we don't have any after-treatment. Now, some other thoughts.....first, you mention that the second cancer was more aggressive. Do you say that as far as the stage, the grade, or the size of the tumor? Second, Femara is a er+ after-care treatment. Your second cancer was estrogen positive. Third, I am also wondering the possibility of not having had clear margins from the first lumpectomy. If there were not clear margins, that meant that some of the tumor remained in the tissue. Generally if that is the case, a re-excision is done to obtain clear margins. This can be determined from the path report from your surgery. So, as far as whether or not procedure was followed can't be determined (IMHO) unless we know more about the original cancer. If you have concerns about the quality of care you received, you do have the right to switch doctors. This is your health, don't be shy about being proactive.
2 :
Tamoxifen is only given for hormone-positive cancers. So your pathology report probably indicated hormone-receptor negative cancer. If so, this is often considered a more aggressive cancer, and recurrence rates are somewhat higher. So it wouldn't be unheard of for you to get a recurrence. Do you have a copy of the original pathology report? If not, ask your oncologist for a copy. That would be an important clue. It sounds as if Femara is given for hormone positive cancers. So if the current incident is hormone-positive, it is either a) a new cancer, or b) someone messed up on your original pathology or treatment plan.
3 :
You do not give sufficient details Due to possible side effects and limited long-term benefit, chemotherapy is not automatically recommended to every patient, but only to some patients. Sometimes genetic tests attempt to estimate the usefulness of the chemotherapy. Even so, it helps only about 5% of the patients who take it. It is misfortunate that your cancer reapeared so fast - and this shocked your doc, however, it does not mean that there was any malpractice. I hope that this time the cancer is gone for good.
4 :
I'm surprised you were treated with radiation twice on the same breast. My understanding is that once an area is treated with radiation it cannot be done again safely. Also, from what I know of friends and an aunt who have had a recurrence of breast cancer in the same breast, once a lumpectomy is done it is usually recommended that a full mastectomy be done instead of a second lumpectomy. My breast surgeon gave me a copy of my pathology report since the lab only keeps the reports for 10 years and one never knows when one may need this information in the future.

Is it possible for a 15 year old to have breast cancer

Is it possible for a 15 year old to have breast cancer?
I have a medium sized pink mole by my left nipple. Should I be seeing a dermatologist for skin cancer? Or a gynecologist for breast cancer? My mom wants to go to the dermatologist. Its getting much bigger and you can see veins surrounding it. I don't tan, so sun doesn't even hit there but I do have a lot of freckles on my face and arms. They are a more tanish brown though. This is a pinkish- orange color. Should I be worried?
Women's Health - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
yes sorry:(
2 :
it's possible but highly highly unlikely. Go see a doctor and have them check out the mole, but a mole doesn't lead to breast cancer, sometime they lead to skin cancer but I doubt you have it, but go to a doctor for some piece of mind you will feel better.
3 :
I would start by seeing a dermatologist. Nothing is impossible. Good luck.
4 :
It is probably best to see a professional, either a gynecologist or dermatologist should know what it is even if it isnt specifically in their field. 'Should I be worried?' if you start stressing yourself out about it then you will end up making yourself ill you never know it could be nothing.
5 :
yea iam soooooooooooooo sorry but u should check it out!!hope u dont have good luck!!...diana
6 :
Yes. Anybody at any age can have cancer. Babies can, toddlers can, teenagers can... you get the idea. A mole is not breast cancer. I'm glad your mom loves you and wants you to go to a dermatologist. That is the correct place to go to. Be grateful you have an awesome mother. <3 Do not be worried - yet. Simply have it looked at now, before it is too late. The sooner you have it looked at by a professional dermatologist, the sooner a potential cure can be suggested, and perhaps a removal. (Ouch!!)
7 :
Although possible, you are at a more reduced risk than a person in their 40's, say. I have a similar sounding thing on my breast, it almost resembles a small nipple. If you're concerned in any way, see your GP, and they will be able to refer you to whichever specialist is appropriate. Remember, at 15 your breasts are going through some dramatic changes, so try not to worry too much. All the best sweetie, I hope it all works out okay :-) x
8 :
yes...sorry :'( and you should go to a dermatologist as with breast cancer you can feel a lump inside the skin and you don't have to be in sunlight or in a tanning booth or something else with long exposure to UV rays to get skin cancer, hope this helps x
9 :
The chances of a 15 year old having breast cancer are as close to zero as makes almost no difference. If you did have it, your case would make headline news and be written up in medical journals the world over. Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s (let alone teens), fewer than 0.% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30, only 5% are under 40 and most (80%) are over 50. I was classed as a 'younger woman' when I was diagnosed with breast cancer; I was 50. And what you describe is not a breast cancer symptom. This is a skin condition, and there is no reason to suppose it's cancer. See your regular doctor, who may well be able to diagnose and treat it, and will refer you on if necessary

You can counter-act your high risk of breast cancer by increasing your intake of antioxidants, because antioxidants do help prevent cancers to some degree. As far as birth control, you should opt for a low-dose because it is less damaging to your body.
5 :
well, birth control pills are very bad for your body and hormones. Even though it lightens periods i think you shouldn't. I take One a Day womens vitamins, it shortens your period without causing your body harm =)

There is no method of chemical birth control that is in any way safe. Why do Dr.s reccomend breast and ovarian cancer testing when there are several other types of cancer

Why do Dr.s reccomend breast and ovarian cancer testing when there are several other types of cancer?
So you find out you don't have breast cancer but who knows what other types you may have?
Cancer - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
They must be the 'in' ones of any season.
2 :
Because there is a higher incidence of these type cancers
3 :
I think it's because they are more prevalent right now. Plus, it's much easier to get a screening for something like that (when you're getting an annual exam anyway). It doesn't make much sense to be tested for say leukemia if you don't have the symptoms...know what I mean?
4 :
Because they are the most common types (for a obgyn to look for anyways., a dermatologist will look for skin cancer) of cancer for young/middle aged women. And they may occur with few symptoms and no history so testing may be the only method of detection. As you age other tests are recommended
5 :
These are cancers that affect women the most..Ovarian cancer is silent and you most likely wouldn't know you even had a problem. For instance, I still have my ovaries but no uterus.. A pap smear is not likely to catch ovarian cancer..
6 :
They recommend these as preventative screening measures. They do not test for ovarian cancer it is cervical cancer which they screen for. As well as colon cancer. They test for these because early detection is key in all cancer. These are only the select few that can be detected without invasive surgery or expensive testing. Ovarian Cancer is not tested for as a preventative measure, but it should be for it is only the matter of an internal exam and a CA-125 test which cost about $100 to run verses $500 for an internal ultrasound. They test for these to help prevent cancer and save lives.

Does taking tamoxifen for breast cancer treatment induce cancer of the uterus

Does taking tamoxifen for breast cancer treatment induce cancer of the uterus ?
What are the side effects of Tamoxifen ? What body organs are affected with cancer after having breast cancer before it reaches your uterus ?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Its advised to take Tamoxifen for 5 years as a treatment for breast cancer. After that there is a small chance of cancer in the uterus occuring. No other body organs are affected by the Tamoxifen only the uterus. If the breast cancer is hormone related, then Tamoxofen works by reducing the amount of oestrogen in your body, as the cancer cells feed on the eostrogen. Why the Tamoxifen should affect the uterus after 5yrs Im not sure, except that it is hormone related.
2 :
Why it decreases the incidence of breast cancer reoccurrence it increases your chances of developing uterine cancer. You need to have pelvic ultrasounds done and if there is any thickening of your uterus you will need to have an endometrial biopsy done. If you have any vaginal bleeding you must inform your oncologist so they can arrange a biopsy.. I had breast cancer and have pasted the 5 year mark with the tamoxifen and am now on femera. Along the way I have had 3 biopsy's done, all were negative.

Should I worry about calcifications after breast cancer

Should I worry about calcifications after breast cancer?
My wife had breast cancer 4 years ago and has been fine since. Shes had regular checks since but as her cancer was muscinous and grade 1 she was told recurrence was highly unlikely. She had a mammogram last week and it found some calcifications which are porbably benign but are just being check out incase. Has anyone else had similar? Was it OK? Is this normal?
Cancer - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Calcifications are fairly common . They are seen in women who have never had breast cancer and those who have. It is probably nothing. It is important that your wife has regular mammograms and she should keep copies of each of her reports. If you should move or she decides to got elsewhere for her mammograms she should take her reports with her and if possible the films, which are usually given on CD these days. This allows the radiologist to compare the films to note if there are any changes, especially something that is increasing in size this helps them detect cancer early.

What are the chances of my mom surving breast cancer

What are the chances of my mom surving breast cancer?
My mom is between 50 - 55 years of age. She was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. She had the surgery, they found nothing wrong in her lymph nodes, & now she has to do chemo (causing her to lose her hair) for 12 weeks, and do radiation. What are her survival chances?? PLEASE HELP ME! :,(
Cancer - 8 Answers

1 :
stage 1=her chances of recovery are excellent
2 :
Better than ever nowadays Good luck
3 :
just found these stats Here are some statistics on the breast cancer survival rate. Stage 0: 100% Stage I:100% - Stage IIA: 92% - Stage IIB:81% - Stage IIIA:67% - Stage IIIB:54% and a stage IV breast cancer survivor is still at 20% It looks like they have found it really early, so she can get all the treatment she needs. If you are really worried, have a chat with your mum and I am sure she will put your mind at rest. She will expect you to have questions and be scared so go and talk to her..
4 :
stage 1 is early breast cancer and ur mom is pretty young..When you reach Stage 1, the tumor has already grown about 2 cm long and it is already considered invasive. However stage 0 and stage 1 breast cancers have 100 % cure rates.. u r lucky she was diagnosed and is being treated at such an early stage.. For breast cancers less than 2cm across, with no cancer in the lymph nodes and either low or intermediate grade (grade 1 or 2),as is the case with ur mother between 8 and 9 out of every 10 women (80 to 90%) will live for at least 10 years after diagnosis. the 5 yr survival rate is 100 %.. what is important is that she goes for regular check ups after having been declared cured to eliminate the cance of a recurrence... wishing her a long and healthy life.take care..
5 :
Dont buy into the hype that Breast cancer. is the 5th biggest cancer in women over 50+ Most of the population dies from other types of cancer. Your mom will be okay. WHat you should do is contact susan komen foundation and get some of the money that they have made. (trust me they have PLENTY, compared to any other charity) and use that to pay for her treatment.
6 :
I had Stage 1 Breast Cancer, with No Lymph Node involvement, and all I needed was 6 weeks of Radiation. Why are they giving her Chemo? Here chances are excellent for surival.
7 :
If it wasnt in the lymph nodes she will survive.
8 :
research how Vitamin B17 might be a cure for cancer & also, research the Raw Food Diet (it's cured people of different diseases!)

Does weraing a bra all the time cause breast cancer

Does weraing a bra all the time cause breast cancer?
I wear a bra all day and all night when i am sleeping, does this cause breast cancer? Is it bad to do this?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
no it doesnt cause cancer.... cells cause cancer.... they say sleeping in your bra causes posture problems as well as back problems... i think it just depends on the person...
2 :
No! Cancer is an internal thing that happens inside your body. Things like that will not effect it.
3 :
One couple did a study that they claim links breast cancer to wearing of bras (particularly wearing bras at night), but apparently their research didn't meet scientific standards. Here's some more info: http://www.healthmad.com/Conditions-and-Diseases/Bra-and-Breast-Cancer.215257
4 :
No, those studies were not done properly. Cancer is something that is caused by carcinogens (toxins, both natural and man-made) in the environment, which are internalized by your system and effect cellular reproduction.

Are you or do you know someone who has been a breast cancer survivor for a long time

Are you or do you know someone who has been a breast cancer survivor for a long time?
I am so terrified of relapsing from breast cancer and i am afraid that i won't survive this disease. I just want to hear some stories from or about people who are long term breast cancer survivors just to give me some type of inspiration. Lo_ MCG I apologize to you for what i have said to you. I said that out of anger and i am very sorry. I hope you will accept my apology.

Well, I am five years eight months from diagnosis, and I had a poor prognosis. The person I know personally who has survived longest was diagnosed nineteen years ago. I believe you had triple negative breast cancer, and that you were diagnosed at a very young age, both of which are worrying for you. I only know one person who had triple negative bc, and she was diagnosed six years ago. My understanding is that although recurrence is more likely in the first couple of years for triple neg cancers, the risk declines after that and after 5 years the risk is the same as for someone with er+ breast cancer - which is statistically greatly decreased and decreasing further with every year that follows. You have accused me in the past of being negative (and once wished me dead), but I am genuinely trying to help here.
2 :
I don't have an answer to your question but I wanted to say god bless you. I don't know you but I will pray for you.
3 :
I am a survivor but not that long. My sister is a 15 yr survivor and she had one of the worse kinds of breast cancer. It was very aggressive and fast growing. I have 2 nieces as well, One is a 10 yr survivor and the other is less than I am. You can't live your life being terrified of getting cancer again. Great strides are being done for breast cancer and it's getting better and better. Early detection is the key. You will survive but you have to have a positive attitude. I hope a lot of people answer this question and put your mind at ease. I have one last thing to say. I admire Lo-mcg. Even though you wish her dead, (which I didn't know until I read her answer). she hold no ill will toward you. In my book, that makes her one heck of a great person. I think you should tell her that you're sorry but only if you mean it. She's like me, I never hold grudges either. We are all here to help one another get passed bad times. I was told by a woman at my church who also had breast cancer, that we women are sisters. Breast cancer makes us more sympathetic to others who have it and we are a sisterhood. So Lo-mcg, myself and anyone else who had or has this are all sisters and we should all encourage one another. So don't spend time being terrified. Take one day at a time and beleive that you won't have it again. Pray. It really works. God bless you and you to Lo
4 :
lo_mcg is one of the people who makes sense here. I don't really keep track but I think I'm about 12 years out from my first BC. I've had it again, not recurrences but independent events. Is 12 years a long time? Well it was long enough for me to get done what I absolutely had to get done. My kids are raised, from here on in it is all gravy. The fear of recurrence is something that all cancer patients have to deal with. I don't have any cure for the "ooh my knee hurts, must be bone cancer" "oh I have a cough, must be lung cancer" or any of the other twinges that have scared us. Personally I've had nose cancer, brain cancer, leg cancer and rib metastases - NOT. But they sure seemed likely at the time. I might make you just as mad at me as at lo_mcg but I fully expect to eventually die from this disease. I plan for that not to happen for a while yet, but the prospect doesn't dismay me.
5 :
I know a woman who turned 100 last year (she's still alive) and had breast cancer in 1963. On the website www.after-cancer.com there are lots of quotes and case studies of people who have lived a long time, and are still alive - see the DVD on breast reconstruction. And only last week very positive statistics re increased survival rates were issued by major UK cancer charities. So we have a better and better chance of surviving - good luck! Verite R

Why is everything related to breast cancer

Why is everything related to breast cancer?
Does anyone else find it annoying that most cancer related products are related to breast cancer? Many of us are fighting other cancers, yet the products are all pink! Does anyone know where to find brain cancer/tumor related products? I've been to zazzle and cafe express. Thanks!

There is less funding for breast cancer is why the pink campaign that you see all the time. I thought everyone knew that???????
2 :
LOL! I even complained to my chemo doc, which he thought was funny! I asked him, where's the gray stuff?? My son got my tshirt from tshirthell.com. BTW, MOST of the cancer funding seems to be going to breast cancer awareness, hence the PINK products at every turn.
3 :
I'll tell you why because breast cancer seems to metastasize to other areas faster than other cancer. No cancer is more important than another. Lets face it, all cancers suck. My sister had breast cancer. 2 yrs after her surgery, she developed brain cancer. When she had the tumors removed, they were breast cancer cells in those tumors. My sister in law was the same way, only her breast cancer detoured to her lungs. She died at 33 from lung cancer caused by breast cancer cells. She never smoked a day in her life either. One woman started the pink ribbon. Susan G. Koman I believe. Why don't you start one for brain cancer. No one says you have to only use pink ribbons. I wish you well.
4 :
I have brain cancer. I too am sick of the focus on only breast cancer. Contrary to what people think, breast cancer is not on the rise. Just the fact that it is easier to diagnose and people are talking about it. We do stained glass. We do not make pink ribbons. We make other colors to fit the cancers. Also, check out www.abta.org They have an on-line store that is for all brain tumors. If you can't find anything, make your own. Make t-shirts, wrist bands, etc. I would buy them and so would many of my friends who also have brain tumors. Please let us know what you discover. This is important to me. Thanks.

I can understand why this issue is frustrating for people with other types of cancer and their families, and of course breast cancer support is particularly high profile at the moment because it's almost October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I agree that awareness needs to be raised about other cancers too, and while I hate 'competitive illness' I can see why there is resentment about an imbalance in awareness raising and fund raising. But the real answer to your question is 'hard work'. Bear in mind that breast cancer awareness campaigns and BC Awareness Month started as a campaign by ordinary women, many of them with cancer, to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation and hard work by women made it grow into something nationally, then internationally, recognised (and then big business cashed in). Any group of people can start such an awareness campaign for any illness. There are other cancer awareness months, ribbons etc; but no cancer campaign has had the sheer hard work put into it that breast cancer awareness has. And all this breast cancer awareness is not 100% positive for those with breast cancer. I have had breast cancer and I think that there are extremely irritating things about Breast Cancer Awareness campaigning, especially Pink October as the more cynical of us call it. Support for those with a deadly disease that kills on average 33 women a day in the UK and 112 a day in the US (the only stats I have, I'm not being ethnocentric) has been turned into a marketing opportunity by big business, with around 1% of the cost of specially made pink stuff going to breast cancer charities, the rest into the retailers’ pockets. The pink fluffy stuff infuriates me, and I'm not at all 'tickled pink' by Asda's (Walmart's) trivialisation of an illness that may yet kill me. October magazines carry stories from cheerful survivors who claim to have the all-clear (there is no all-clear with breast cancer), and often say bc has changed their lives for the better - very different from anybody I know who's had breast cancer. And it has negative consequences for breast cancer patients too - I believe that the whole thing is counter-productive, that the marketing and fund-raising hype surrounding breast cancer, by trivialising a deadly disease, is leading people to believe that breast cancer is a) not very serious, certainly not as serious as many other cancers (many women with breast cancer have been told - by people who don't have it - that it's a 'good' cancer to get) and b) curable. (my neighbour said to me 'they've just about got breast cancer licked, haven't they?' Really? Why are they still cutting women's breasts off then?) I've even heard it said that it's a ‘fashionable’ or 'sexy' cancer - my sexy prosthesis and sexy scarred, one-breasted body are evidence that it's no such thing. Yes other cancers need awareness campaigns - many have them as I’ve said, but they don't receive so much support – or, crucially, have as much work put into them. I don't wear a pink ribbon and as someone in remission from breast cancer I support the Think Before You Pink and Pink Stinks! campaigns http://www.thinkbeforeyoupink.org/Pages/AboutTheCampaign.html

Breast Cancer Alternative There are many supplements and remedies, if taken regularly and as recommended, that can give you the immune system of a child. Important, is to know them. This list of supplements can increase your chance of being cured of breast cancer considerably. If prostate cancer is becoming a concern for men, women are not in peace with breast cancer, which dries up the source of joy of thousands of women every year, rich and poor. In fact, breast cancer is not new, although its incidence seems increasing. In the 5th century BC, Atossa, the queen of Persia, had fought in vain against her breast cancer. Tears in her eyes, in excruciating pain, surrounded by family and friends, she had to say goodbye to power and wealth to an endless journey. Despite the progress of medical science, the frequency of breast cancer is increasing every day around the world. He is the most common cancer in women. One woman out of twelve will be affected by breast cancer during her lifetime, according to several medical statistics. The disease becomes so popular to the point that a large majority of women are afraid to undergo a mammogram. Women of all classes feel concerned about breast cancer. Billions of dollars are spent in studies, but the causes are still poorly understood, healing is hypothetical. To increase their chance of being cured of breast cancer, some victims turn to alternative treatments. Either alone or along with the conventional treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormonotherapy, surgery, etc.) every day more and more women use natural medicine to fight breast cancer. If you are one of them, this article will be an additional weapon in your war against breast cancer. Is there an alternative way to eradicate breast cancer besides chemotherapy and radiotherapy? Immunotherapy - is a type of therapy consists of stimulating the normal defenses (immune reactions) of the body to fight or protect the body against pathogenic attack, including the development of cancer cells. Immunotherapy is not new as many may think; however, in the past, physicians believed that the immune system fought only against bacterial and viral attacks. About 100 years ago, Dr. William Coley has demonstrated that it can cure or control the proliferation of cancer cells by injecting vaccine that strengthens the immune system. However, the theory was not so appreciated by the medical elite. After years of studies, researchers have found that the immune system plays an essential role in protecting the body against cancer. Studies have also shown that patients who have a strong immune system not only more likely to be cured from breast cancer but also to reverse the effects of chemotherapy and radiation. That is, your chance to be healed depending largely on the health of our immune system. How can you boost your immune system naturally? There are many supplements, If taken regularly and as recommended, that can give you the immune system of a child. Some of them include: Lignans - Lignans are non steroidal compounds of the family of phytoestrogens (also known as dietary estrogens) found in large quantities in fruits and vegetables, soy, flaxseed and grains. They have preventive and curative effects on breast cancer, according to new studies conducted by a group of French and German doctors in premenopausal women with breast cancer and healthy premenopausal women. It seems that lignans affect the breast tissue by blocking the synthesis and movement of female hormones, preventing tumor development. The medical elite do not confirm these studies yet; if you are a cancer victim, however, you can increase your lignans intake. Ellagic acid - ellagic acid is a polyphenol antioxidant present in many fruits and vegetables such as raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, walnuts, pecans, grenades, etc. Researchers have found that Ellagic acid may inhibit or slow the development of cancer cells. It is also suggested that ellagic acid can help reduce heart disease, liver problems, and birth defects. However, to get satisfying results, this supplement must be taken with a diet rich in fruits and cruciferous vegetables. Astragalus - Astragalus propinquus (or simply Astragalus) has been used in herbal medicine for centuries to strengthen the body against diseases including but limited to colds, upper respiratory infections, heart disease, lower blood pressure, diabetes, liver problems, and many types of cancer. Astragalus has been shown in medical studies to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, antiviral and diuretic properties. Using it regularly as recommended, Astragalus can not only prevent or eradicate cancer cells, but also a wide range of other ailments. Graviola - also known as sour, Brazilian Paw Paw, Guanbana, Graviola boosts the immune system, reverses some chemotherapy side effects, and enhances the effectiveness of other cancer remedies. Th

what are some ways to show support for breast cancer when it is not the month of october

what are some ways to show support for breast cancer when it is not the month of october?
I have to do a persuasive speech and I would like to do it on breast cancer awareness.

Who cares what month it is! Just wear a pink ribbon on your clothes! Nobody will notice if you just wear a pink shirt
2 :
By continuing to advocate self-examination and early detection for women of all ages.
3 :
Continue to wear the clothing, buttons, or ribbons that support breast cancer. The main thing to do is instruction in maintaining a upbeat Attitude, Hopefulness, and be positive, encourage support groups. Also encourage everyone to do self-checks, mammograms. My mother showed me a lump the size of a large avocado seed; why she waited, I don't know. Persuade them to immediately see a physician if they feel anything suspicious. I love the commercial done by Lyn Redgrave. It is so positive. God Bless.
4 :
As mentioned above me, encourage the women in your life to do self checks once a month and report anything 'suspicious' to the dr right away. You can also support by donating to Susan G. Koman Foundation, you can buy the yoplait yogurt with the pink lids and return the lids by mail to the address on them by the expiration date on the lids, you can order breast cancer awareness checks for your checkbook. I think Susan G Koman's website may have ways you can contribute or raise awareness through-out the year. Good luck with your speech!

Can effective Breast Enlargement pills cause breast cancer

Can effective Breast Enlargement pills cause breast cancer?
I started taking Bust-Boom recently. Less than a week and I already notice a huge difference in my breast size. They use phytoestrogens to increase estrogen to stimulate new breast cell growth. I've read that phytoestrogen may reduce the chance of breast cancer but I've also read that elevated levels of estrogen can encourage breast cancer cells. Does anyone know more about this? If you do, can you provide references? Thanks

Do you want links? Please do research this thoroughly before continuing with a product you have bought for yourself. Best of luck.
2 :
Hi.... Estrogens are well known to increase breast cancer risk in some women, however, for example, OCP (oral contraceptive pills) have estrogens and may increase the risk only slightly (they also have lower doses than they used to have). OCPs are also known to decrease the risk of ovarian cancer (1) and endometrial cancer, after 5 years of use. Phytoestrogens in the other hand, have been measured in urine of women in women with lower prevalence of breast cancer, like Japanese women and had been found in higher levels. In animal studies, phytoestrogens were found to interfere with tumor formation in rats (2). But it all depends what kind of phytoestrogens are you taking, and also the dosing (doses a lot higher than in food)!!! In general you should be cautious and limit your consumption, because some phytoestrogens can have a estrogen like effect, and those could potentially cause cancer. So.... some researches believe phytoestrogens can actually reduce the risk of cancer, certain types, and when they come from the diet. And some researches are worried that some phytoestrogens could be harmful in high doses. Pretty unclear! I know, just be careful and remember that all those 100% natural suplements can be harmful too. My personal opinion?? I find very unlikely that a "natural" product would work as fast, and if it does, I would personally think it might be dangerous. I visited their website, and it seems very unprofessional. Remember a lot of herbs have not been studied, and while they might work, the dosing in natural products is not controlled, as in other drugs or medications. Good luck! :)

Can any woman help me regarding breast cancer

Can any woman help me regarding breast cancer ?
My life long best friend just told me she has breast cancer and I am so worried. She ignored a lump for several years and this week finally got a mammogram and a ultrasound and a biopsy which confirmed it cancer. She says she can feel it and its 3 to 4 cms.. They told her to come in monday for an mri.. She is only 36 and what concerns me is that she had this lump for so long and never told anyone, Why the mri and does she still have a good chance it hasn't spread?

i believe in "mangosteen" its a juice that has been known to cure cancer.. look it up on google
3 :
They will be able to see any other tumors by the MRI. If the cancer hasn't spread (they will probably do a lymph node dissection as well) she has a chance. They can either remove the lump-if she only has one. Or they can remove the breast, and then do reconstruction surgery.
4 :
god bless her heart and my prayers go out to her o.k take care ok baby
5 :
well im not a woman but i can tell you a few things. Mammograms are taken with x-rays and an mri uses magnets. the reason for the mri is that it differentiates between soft tissues much better than the x-rays froma mammogram could. also the mri will help with localizatiojn opf the mass, since it has the ability to show images in 3d. and as for the spreading im not a doctor so i cant tell you in good confidence

I'm not a woman but I have read this recent news that there is now a vaccine that can lower the mortality rate of woman who has breast cancer by 100% . here is the reference you may want to read it too. http://health.fnets.net/?p=53

What should I do, I just found out my Aunt has breast cancer

What should I do, I just found out my Aunt has breast cancer?
My sister just got off the phone with our mother. My aunt has breast cancer. I don't what to do. I don't know how to feel. She lives half way across the country and I can't afford to fly there to see her. What am I and my sisters able to do for her?

1 :
the best thign to do right now is to jsut give her support and be there for her, phone her more often etc..
2 :
I would definitely let her know you care and wish you could be there with her. Besides that, there are things you can do for her right where you are. My husband was diagnosed with stage iv cancer which had spread to his lungs. I spent a lot of time on the internet researching alternative cancer cures. I found a lot of helpful information. He has been on a special program of supplements and diet for the last 3 years and is well and healthy today. Don't give up - start researching and stay in touch with her!
3 :
If you go to www.after-cancer.com there are details of lots of small things you could do that make a big difference to cancer patients. Just being there and keeping in touch will lift her spirits. And look under Treats and in the other categories for all the things that have helped friends and family keep in touch. Good luck - and your Aunt is lucky to have such a supportive family. Verite R
4 :
I am so sorry for your Aunt, but breast cancer is beatable I know, my wife has it and we have been fighting a tough battle. It will take a lot of support from family and friends to pull together and get your Aunt well again. The first thing she will have to do is to find out what stage her breast cancer is in and then begin a plan of recovery. At home where she lives: She needs to gather a team of doctors that will be helping her to overcome this disease. I would have her find out the best ones in the city she lives in and begin there. When she goes to doctors visits see if she can take a voice recorder to record what is being said. Too often it is a lot of information to comprehend and this would be a nice way to make sure all the information is there for review. She will be going in for a bunch of tests, so schedules will have to be altered to take her to them. Being far away you will not be doing this, but what you can do is pray for her, and call her often so she has somebody to talk to. My wife's friends got together and made her a Cancer Quilt. It has helped her a lot especially when she got down, she would wrap herself in it and feel loved. It would be nice to get something hand made so that when she is depressed she could look at it and feel loved. There will be a lot of pressure to the family members living around your Aunt because they are going to be at the battle front. They will be the ones to help her get to her appointments, help her with housework, do the cooking and the chores. If she will have to go through chemotherapy, it will take it's toll. Not at first but gradually. My wife never got sick because they have a lot of drugs that will take care of that. It depends upon how many treatments she may have to go through. What my wife appreciates are the phone calls, letters, and cards she received. Words of inspiration are very important. I hope they caught it early, and she will not have to experience what my wife has but she can make it through it. Talk to her and let her bring it up if she wants to. Add me to your friends list if you want to and feel free to ask any questions if you need to. My prayers go out to you and your family. Your Aunt will beat it, and she will need all the support she can get, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It takes a lot of WORK to fight this terrible disease.

Grandma and aunts are considered 2nd degree relations. They are 1st degree relations to your mother, increasing her risk factor, but not considered a major increase your risk, particularly if they were over 40 when diagnosed. Try the link to calculate your personal risk.
2 :
they are high specially if the gene responsible is BRCA-1 and 2 genes you can read more about breast cancer in here with many useful links http://breastcancerdestroyer.blogspot.com/

There are no hard fast rules, so, please try not to worry,as there is nothing worse than worry for causing ill health.I am not trying to make light of it ,as i lost my wife with it last year. HER sister had it 6 years ago and is still doing fine.Check your body each day, that is the best way to catch it early,is the advice we have given our daughters.

How to Lower Your Chances of Getting Cancer There are many factors that go into causing cancer in an individual. Genetics is a big factor because it has been found that cancer runs in a family. What would be a good title for a research paper about breast cancer

What would be a good title for a research paper about breast cancer?
I had to do a 10 page research paper on breast cancer and I need a really stong good title. any suggestions? thanks

I have a ton of books on breast cancer (since my wife had it) and I've read them all plus numerous newspaper and magazine articles on it. So from all this reading on the subject here are a few things that stand out about breast cancer in my researching of the topic. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetimes. That means that out of ten women 80% will get it. With this in mind comes my second thought and it is that surviving breast cancer is dependent upon discovering it early, in fact the earlier the better. I also learned that twenty women could have breast cancer and the experience will be slightly different for each women. Because of staging, hormone negative or positive, it can be different for each and every patient. So, the treatment is the same that is chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation but it is different for each patient. With this in mind, I would formulate a good title and thesis sentence. One in Eight Women will get Breast Cancer in their Lifetimes, Early detection is a key to surviving it. I could even dismiss the last part of the title, and call it, "One in Eight". Hope it helps. How I would break it down. Introduction about statistics of the disease, make a strong thesis sentence. What is cancer What does it mean when it is discovered in the breast Dealing with the Diagnosis Staging and what that means Next step- gathering your team together Treatment blending traditional and non traditional together After Treatment what's next? Paying for treatment the Cost of Cancer Life is Never the Same Cancer Returns, what now?
