There are several kinds of invasive breast cancers. The most common is invasive ductal carcinoma, which appears in the ducts. Invasive or infiltrating breast cancer penetrates through normal breast tissue such as the ducts and lobules and invade surrounding areas. They are more serious than noninvasive cancers because they can spread to other organs, such as the bones , liver, lungs, and the brain. As far as her chances of living it depends on what stage of cancer she has along with tumor marker status, menopausal status, her age, her overall health and lifestyle. I have stage III B cancer had spread to my lymph nodes. My treatment consisted of chemo, first to try and shrink the tumor, then surgery (radical mast.) reconstructive surgery at the same time. Then 9 weeks later 33 treatments of radiation. I am now on hormone therapy for the next 5 years. I had 9 lymph nodes removed and cancer has spread into my lymphatic system, they were unable to remove anymore lymph nodes. Regardless of what stage she is in be there for her and don't let her give up. She's in for the fight of her life. Don't let her bottle up her feelings, she needs to open up and talk about her fears and feelings. Tell her to be sure to ask for her pathology report it will also help her understand whats going on. I will say a prayer for her, remember God will help.

I'm sorry to hear of your mother-in-law's diagnosis. Invasive breast cancer is breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast tissue and into surrounding areas. They are more dangerous than non-invasive breast cancers since they can spread to vital organs. There are two common types of invasive breast cancer: ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma. Ductal carcinoma is more common but both forms act in a similar manner. In terms of her prognosis, it would be very difficult to say here without knowing how advanced her cancer is and how the cells look under a microscope as well as other pathology information. Best wishes to you
